This starts out big and bold right away when you open the bottle. The first thing that comes to mind is really burnt caramel popcorn. Yummy! Then there are gasoline notes and burnt rubber like car tires after braking - oh yes, we are at the gas station, baby!
Below that there are also some sweet fruity notes - strawberry jam. Add some hazelnuts and the faint smell of button mushrooms. And some very malty dark ale. All of that is accompanied by sulphur notes that get stronger and stronger with time. Do you remember those toy percussion caps we used in fake cowboy revolvers in our childhood? It's exactly that gunpowdery smell. Quite fitting for the WANTED label. Pew pew!

Oh wow! This really attacks your taste buds as soon as it touches your lips. The burnt caramel popcorn from the nose kicks in the door. It's time to party! Dark ale once again and then there is the sulphur. The taste keeps what the nose promised.
Some meaty notes (umami?) and then - if you can taste through the sulphur - a tiny bit of herbal candy with a hint of liquorice in there. A very thick and creamy mouthfeel. Exactly what I would call 'full bodied'. And this one really stimulates salivation.

Medium length. So the sulphur doesn't stay with you forever. On the finish the taste reminds me more of struck matches.
Sweet caramel popcorn once again. The burnt taste stays but slowly transforms into lingering ashes of a recently burnt out campfire.

This is one of my unicorn whiskys. Really strange, but the kind of bottle that I just can't stop thinking about.

Beware if you consider sulphur an off-note! This surely is a love/hate bottle, but I have brought it to some tastings and have gotten overwhelmingly positive feedback.

I needed a G&T to clean my palate from the 666 sulphur, if you like this, you'll like this beast of hell. Love it or hate it is not the question that is decided half way down the bottle. It is immediate.

    • Taste
Sulfur-rich, sour cucumbers, tart and fruity alike, burnt tires, Maggi! Umami! Nut...

The  digital dual code on the label reads as „bowmore“ in ASCII.

    (011000010 = 0 + 64 + 32 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 2 + 0 = 98 = „b“)

A diabolical bowmore, demanding and fascinating at the same time.
    • Nose
      90 90
dark and dirty like Powidl, leather, bacon, candied orange peel and smoking colts, with maritime notes and sulfur
    • Taste
      89 89
dark, sweet and dirty, sulfur, lacquer, leather, charred gum, spicy anise and turmeric, and burnt meat
    • Finish
      89 89
long and sweet at the same time, memories of matchstick heads, blown out candles, fennel and meat are awakened

Today I try this whisky that appears from reviews to be a love or hate it bottle. Let's see how it tastes.

Nose is quite potent with gun flint, bicycle inner tube, burnt orange, smoked bacon, redskin peanuts, and then red berries and finally light chocolate in the background.

Palate continues with burnt oranges, the redskin peanuts are now over-roasted, creamy milk chocolate, then becomes oily with pepper sauce.

Finish lingers on the where the palate left off with the pepper coming to the fore followed by oranges and chocolate for a moderate length.

There is something really off in this bottling. I have found it in different distilleries (Glenfarclas and Macallan). It's a "nasty" oiliness. What I have found is that people love this or hate this. I fall into the category of hate. If this was based on my enjoyment rather than an overall rating, I would place this closer to 30. It has elements that are quite good but this one factor makes this almost undrinkable for me. This is not to say that those with higher ratings are wrong; they just don't find what I call a flaw to be undesirable. Enjoy if you have it.

Smell: sea, smoky cherries, slightly peaty, there is more fruit (plums),
Taste: peaty, but with a very strong influence of sweet fruit, sea, smoked cheese with cranberries
    Finish: peat-fruity
    Score: 6.5

Sample from Limburg: strong sulphite note, pencil lead (sucked on it in elementary school!).
