OK, I'm curious. For a Dronach light color, that means nothing.
    • Nose
      89 89
So the nose is very fine. Not so sherry overloaded but fruity and full. Has a few plums and spices typical of sherry. But syrup smells sweet. But the wood comes through. One moment there is still coffee and chocolate. Possibly banana
    • Taste
      88 88
Wow sweet sugar syrup and then plum and honey. Very tasty, the alcohol hardly gets through
The wood is a bit tart, but gives a contrast, why not; there is still pepper somewhere.
    • Finish
      90 90
Coffee and chocolate on a piece of wood. Very tasty, the situp-like holds up, you might think you've got your mouth full of sugar syrup. Awesome, pepper also comes through, but not a normal, almost something like Madagascar jungle pepper.

A 23 year old Glendronach out of a Pedro Ximenez Puncheon ... to be honest, I expected more! Very nice, balanced and rather reserved. For God's sake not a bad bottling, but as already mentioned, I expected a little more. Brief reflection: Sweet, fruity, spicy, harmonious, nutty, actually quite tasty ;-)

    22/22/22/23 (89P)
    • Nose
Light caramel and cloudy amber shimmer in the Premium Snifter, a fat streak sticks to the glass wall ... Hazelnuts and dried fruit aromas rise up, toffee plays with milk chocolate, dried wood tones emerge. Mandarin peels and honey, mushy bananas ??? Hints of meadow herbs and blackberries, the nose seems quite closed and reserved. A tiny pinch of cocoa powder, raisins and zest of oranges, a hint of mint and creamy toffee ...
    • Taste
The first sip flows over the tongue, mild and fruity tart. Brown sugar, lightly caramelized, with toasted hazelnuts and a handful of sweet raisins. Another sip pours creamy through the mouth, crumbs of dark chocolate with zest of orange peel and old herbs, burnt cocoa powder with worn cinnamon sticks. Slightly tart and spicy wood notes, sweet and fruity in the finish.
    • Finish
Sweet dried grapes and berries stick tenderly and muffled on the palate, caramelized sugar and a hint of cocoa, mint with nuts, unfortunately the finish fades away relatively quickly ...

    -Blind tasting-
Smells and tastes like sherry barrel. These musty notes at the beginning make it really interesting and varied.
    • Nose
      89 89
Musty and musty wood, damp cellars, mushrooms and berries. Over time, lighter fruits appear, the musty first impression subsides and gives way to an almost spring-like nose with wild herbs, ripe apples, apricots. Very versatile.
    • Taste
      88 88
Immediately on hand with orange peel, almonds, toffee and nougat - that would take me to Speyside as a region. The musty barrel, accompanied by liquorice and a pinch of pepper, is also evident on the tongue. It is still the (straw) berries that determine the fruit aromas. Will the bright fruits like in the nose still come? No, not here on the tongue. But it gets nutty and dry, the barrel hits again properly.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium to long, dry, hazelnuts and almonds, toffee, cold coffee grounds, liquorice sweets, partially fermented grapes.

Already open for about two years, the wood is more in the foreground.
    • Nose
      90 90
Tangerine peels, pine wood, walnut, resin, subtle rubber note, chocolate, fine fruit note.
    • Taste
      90 90
Lemon, tangerine, orange, leather, honey and a mu flavor.
    • Finish
      89 89
White pepper, tart oak, medium-long finish

    • Nose
      mango, maracuja, sweet froasted nuts.
    • Taste
sweet fermented grapes, px sherry & rum aroma.
    • Finish
      cocoa, chocolate notes, slightly sparkling.

Strong and rich in honey and fruit. Seems to me this GD was originally in bourbon casks. For the full review, go here: https://halbendrinks.de/2022/01/30/gdpx/

  7. LeChiffre scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Powerful Glendronach I would have rated much younger. No Sherry Monster superimposed on the distillery character. Interesting mix of sweet-sour fruitiness and spice. Tasty, but for the price no big bottle candidate.
    • Nose
      88 88
fruity; rather lighter fruits; clear note of tangerines and oranges; raisins; some herbal honey; delicate oak flavoring; altogether light sweet and sour fruit aroma; wins with a little water and time in the glass
    • Taste
      87 87
sweet and spicy with a slight pungency; raisins; Orange notes; Chocolate; spicy oak; remove some leather
    • Finish
      88 88
Dried fruit; institutions; dark chocolate; delicate oak flavor

  8. The_Independent scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

A wonderful Glendronach, which stands out clearly from the dark "sherry monsters". Complex, interesting and dangerous "tasty"!
    • Nose
      91 91
Amazing fruity and juicy, blood oranges, sweet orange pulp, some lime zest, grapes, with time I smell cherry, marzipan stuffed with plum jam, stollen, toffee and a herbaceous oak flavor. Very complex and interesting, takes a nice development in the glass - but no "dark" sherry bomb.
    • Taste
      92 92
Very voluminous and strong, very sweet and creamy, rum raisins, orange peel, honey, vanilla cream, some cocoa powder, milk chocolate, light oak spice and a hint of cinnamon, no bitterness.
    • Finish
      90 90
Medium to long finish, characterized by chocolate, sweet dried fruit - raisins and orange peel as well as creamy latte macchiato.

An interesting GD. Far away from other sherry monsters. finer. Sweet fruitcake. Slightly surprisingly dirty notes on the finish. Interesting combo with the sweetness
Tried CS Batch10 in comparison, and I don't have an argument for an additional charge of 300 euros.

A Glendronach PX Single Cask exclusively for Germany. Available in stores for a surprisingly long time for around the issue price - despite very good ratings on average and also well below the prices of the newer releases. By the way, over 23 years old - look at it.
Sour-sweet on the nose. Raisins but also lighter fruits, oranges, mango, passion fruit, honey. Light meadow herbs. Oak, and that typical walnut note, which somehow always has a rather present in the nose when PX barrels are involved. Light mint freshness, probably from alcohol. Pleasant in the mouth but also a bit spicy from the alcohol, but luckily the sherry doesn't kill you directly. Oily mouthfeel. Sweet but again a slightly sour note but not as fruity as in the nose but rather fermented, I don't like that very much. Fortunately only briefly, then come clove, vanilla
Long finish, initially sourly fermented, slightly spicy but then more bitter with coffee / espresso and walnut. Yes, without this slightly too strong, sour, fermented note and the slight alcoholic tinge, I would really like it. So it is still tasty and, above all, quite tasty. 88 points

  17. Dottore scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

It's funny that this 94 Glendronach is still available in November 2020 for just under € 250, whereas bottles from this period from the current release blow the 600 mark. Well ... you don't have to understand everything.
For me, the PX barrel will soon be in my nose. Somehow I always associate this beautiful walnut note with it. In the background dates, glazed grapes from popular festivals from better times and almond cake. A bit of shower gel freshness is added.
Super sharp in the mouth, very strange as if the part had somehow been tilted to make it soapy. Not drinkable for me this sample from a 5 cl sample bottle ... Have you ever had something like this? Others also describe a sharpness ...
Therefore I do not evaluate the filling because I don't know whether it is the filling or a change in the sample bottle ...

    Delicious light fruity sweet GD.
    • Nose
      89 89
Direct toffee and honey sweetness, canned mandarins, orange zest.
    • Taste
      88 88
Sweetness of honey and fresh young grapes, slightly tingling.
    • Finish
      88 88
A little more spicy, a little dry. Cocoa powder. For the expression, which otherwise seems rather young, rather long

Quite complex and powerful - better with a little water - not quite such a sherry monster like the #101 but very good too!
    • Nose
      92 92
First there is a lot of toffee and fresh sherry notes, after the come up more fresh fruits, orange peel, apple, passion fruit, and hints of raisins, spices, little cinnamon and nutmeg, fine notes of sherry wood, chocolate and whiffs of toasted bread and dry hay - great!
    • Taste
      91 91
Punchy, oily, good sweetness, fruity, nutty, white grape juice, spices, little coffee, also some toffee, new wood, more nutmeg, dark chocolate - very good!
    • Finish
      90 90
Long, warm, more of espresso, more nutty, walnuts, grapefruits, probably a tad bitter

  22. Issie did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    • Nose
Pine needles, resin, earth, very dark honey, leather, dried fruit, a little dusty, after some time blackberries and strawberries, very slight hints of sulfur (matches), spices and others. Nutmeg, wood, I smell a little bit of green ... any grass
    • Taste
Honey, blackberries, strawberries, grasses, wood, lime, lemon, coffee, a little pepper

  23. Igitor scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Nice complex on the nose. The sherry gets through well, but doesn't push everything down. You don't notice the alcohol.

Overall, a very good impression, even if I prefer to treat myself to something else for the price
    • Nose
      90 90
Raisins, toffee, light leather, banana chips, nectarine and honey
    • Taste
      89 89
Light wheat, lots of leather, chocolate and fruits. But you should definitely take bigger sips
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium length finish. Just a little bitterness.

Somewhat impetuous Glendronach with rather bright sweet and sour fruit notes and distinct bitterness. Needs water.

After a few weeks of oxidation, it seems a bit rounder and more pleasing to me. In the nose are beautiful chocolate notes and leather notes added. Amazingly dry for a PX barrel.
    (Sample by ArPeJa)
    • Nose
      88 88
Sour fruit compote. Rather bright fruits. The alcohol stands out easily, but can be tamed well with water. then it gets creamier. Herbal notes, ginger and black tea. Some honey.
    • Taste
      88 88
Starts with distinct sharpness, certainly also from the alcohol, reminds as in the nose of ginger. Glendronach-typical leathery and slightly dusty notes briefly flash through. Then follows a dry cargo of herbs (sage) and pine needles.
    • Finish
      87 87
Tart oak, a lot of caramel.
Long with light toasted notes and dried apricots and cinnamon.

  29. Totoro scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Restrained cask influence, with the spirit singing loudly. Not the opulent experience you may expect from an ex-PX-matured GD; instead it's pretty clean and chiseled. If you liked the NAS cask strength OBs but would have liked more age, this is for you. Counterintuitive, but very good.
    • Nose
Fruity and floral, but also weighty and weirdly mineralic. Graphite, brine, and sultanas. Nutty and juicy. Love how the spirit shines through. With time, coffee notes appear.
    • Taste
Sweet and fruity attack, with grape and caramel running in tandem. Powerful but potable at cask strength. Water opens it up nicely as everything becomes juicier and more (American) oak comes out. Again, really close to the distillate.
    • Finish
Good length, with some crisp oak, and fresh, zesty fruit.

weird bitter/chemical off-notes, alcohol not well integrated after 20+ years maturation ... If Glendronach would have had to build a reputation on such casks it would be difficult to sell this for 100 Euro these days. I opened 1993 cask 23 to check if something is wrong with my palate but found it to be working quite normally.

Great drop, I would not have recognized as PX, an unusual but damn good Glendronach!
    • Nose
Light fruits, mango, caramel, lime juice, honey banana, ginger, nutmeg, after a while fresh mint comes through, vanilla pudding, raisins, slightly musty apricots
    • Taste
Strong start, first raisins with ginger sweets and honey, then beautiful intense nut chocolate, caramelized sugar syrup, the banana is also found again and this orange marmalade. Great interplay, between fruity, harsh and sweet! Water is unnecessary here, because I find only less flavors, but nothing new!
    • Finish
Long!!! Shaped by dark chocolate, ginger, nutmeg and orange marmalade
