The fruit dominates the nose, but the vanilla is clearly in the foreground in taste and finish. My first first-fill bourbon single cask but definitely not the last one. Due to the ex-bourbon barrels, I was afraid of adhesive flavors, which I luckily found zero. You don't taste alcohol either, despite 47.8 vol.%. It's just pleasant and tasty. Super summer whisky!
Despite 12 years, the 50-55 € is easily worth it.
In the nose an aromatic, colorfully mixed fruit plate: green apple at the beginning, with more air comes banana and later clearly the much-quoted juice orange - the first whisky where I actually smell it! Class. Some honey behind it. The vanilla that you would expect from a first-fill bourbon barrel only flashes discreetly behind the fruit. Above all, water clearly produces the apple, which is why I would rather not use it in the future.
Sweet, extremely creamy, mild and tasty! It really lulls the tongue. Through my nose I had already expected the vanilla to be weak. Not even close. Thick waves of soft vanilla flood. At some point there will also be some honey and then even a slight peppery. Even this pepper is pleasant, zero biting, but a nice contrast to the vanilla and makes the taste more interesting. With water altogether flowerier, vanilla becomes airier and less intense - unnecessary, the 47.8 vol. % is a good thing.
Vanilla, of course. Some honey too, and here you can feel the oak more clearly. In the end even a delicate bitterness, which together with the fruit aromas is more reminiscent of apple peel. Very beautiful. Vanilla sticks everywhere in the mouth and flashes again and again, resulting in a long finish. Insanely delicious. Vanilla lighter with water, but more bitter.
