Nice "thick" Sherrymalt, on which one can chew long. On the tongue and in the finish, he keeps what he promises with the very inviting nose.
    • Nose
      90 90
A full, thick nose that initially presents raisins, dates, leather and wood. Spicy and dark fruit, clearly sherry-embossed. Lined with a slightly musty note, moist clay soil and mushrooms.
    • Taste
      90 90
Strong start with sweet overripe grapes. Prunes. Pepper, cloves, cinnamon, coriander. Licorice notes. Also on the tongue, the sherry shows very clearly. Some wood as a base. Over time, tart herbs will go through and it will become mentholig. Nougat chocolate and marzipan, some malt.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium to long, dry. Still the beautiful combination of spices / herbs and the sweet grapes. With dark chocolate, caramel and coffee beans.

[June, 2018]  I had this dram during this year's "Feis Ile" tasting session.

The colour is chestnutoloroso sherry and the texture shows a sticky ring with small and rather fast tears.  The nose is a typical "Moine" one:  a somewhat dirty mixture of sherry and peaty aromas.  I know a lot of people like this but not me, unfortunately.  I prefer clean drams, simply.  The whisky arrives hot and not coating at all in the mouth with a minor astringent moment from heavier tannins.  The taste is sweeter than the nose with fine sherry flavours (that I like) and a major peatiness in a firm wooden setting.  Actually, this is nicely balanced.  The finish is of medium length and adds some more fruits and spices.  Water is not recommended because it unlocks bitter flavours mainly (what happens with heavily sherried drams quite often).

If you like the usual Moine profile you will find this dram excellent, most probably.  If not (like me) it is average only but still it is very quaffable...

    • Nose

First a lot of smoke, but soon it dissipates and makes room for fruity notes, raisins and caramel. Creamy sweets and sherry.
    • Taste
      92 92
Dark chocolate immediately on the rise, followed by sweet sherry notes and distinct but pleasant integrated alcohol. Very warm.
    • Finish
      91 91
Bitter chocolate, cocoa beans and licorice. It burns a bit, but that is well integrated. Full-bodied, medium-long feeling in the mouth.

[Only] £75-80 for a bottle yet £10 for a 2.5cl taster?! Thank goodness for friends. Tasted blind.

N: Despite the big & firm contemporary first-fill action, the distillate comes through. I’m getting more PX vibes than oloroso - wrong!
T: A spicy sweet peaty number.
F: Peaty vegetal >smoky barley before becoming sweet and ashy.
C: Decent, fun and well made.

Very good festival expression from Bunnahabhain. Complex nose, a bit closed on full ABV but opens up with water really well. Palate isn’t that complex but in spite of that is full-bodied and very pleasant. Finish is long and gentle. Excellent whisky as for 10 year-old. Hard to find and quite expensive but definitely worth tasting.
    • Nose
Light smoke, dried fruits (apples, prunes, raisins), clove, red berries, oranges, lemon peel. Water opens up tropical fruits and intensifies berries (red currant). Also some wet wood and grassy notes.
    • Taste
Sweet, slightly spicy (ginger), gently smoky, smoked prunes, caramel, citrus, later come oaky notes.
    • Finish
Quite long, dry, sweet, a bit oaky, leather, some malt and nuts.
