Definately a Lagavulin. And an impressive one for sure. I can highly recommend it. Specially for the original price it's a bargain.
    • Nose
      90 90
Maritime, salty and fresh, bbq notes and a hint of smoke.
    • Taste
      89 89
Bacon, dried fruits and some peat changes after a bit and becomes more fruity. Mouth filling taste.
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium length. Again dried fruits and bbq notes with salt and a hint of smoke.

best nose in quite some time.
if there is such thing as an islay-tooth, this is what it craves.
    • Nose
      94 94
clean, heavy, oily Islay peat.. sweet, ashy blue-cheese.
citrus and sea breeze.. pineapple and cocoa.. nothing subtle, nothing Ardbeg-y about this nose, it is all about fat, dirty peat..
with time, floral scents and aromatic herbs, a visit to the pharmacist

with water, more ash, more heavy tannins and mint
    • Taste
      91 91
salted blueberries.. grilled lemons with a heavy helping of soot.. beautiful, precious smoke that mixes with iodine and just yum (sry, i'm lost for words).

there is an oaky beast slumbering underneath the spitit's oily layers.. and heavy chewing or a few drops of water wakes it up.
    • Finish
      86 86
salted pimentos de padron.. spicy liquorice and onion jam followed by a long, dry, bitter-herbs and honey sweetness

    Highly recommended, undisclosed Lagavulin!
    • Nose
      88 88
Very mild nose, with the young age and high abv not really showing. Sweetness and dried fruits from the sherry, as well as light peat. Perhaps a bit of corn.
    • Taste
      92 92
Peat with a great mix of dried fruits, some wood and peber. Very filling in the mouth and just wow. Rich and dark. Some chocolate and grape. Everything just slowly evolves and convolutes the entire mouth.
    • Finish
      92 92
It just keeps going and developing. The chocolate and grape carries over. The peat is quite subtle, but present. Dark fruits and orange zest. Mild spices and salt.

A much lighter sherry style than e.g. the Classic of Islay series. Furthermore a comparable style.
    • Nose
      86 86
Peat, rose hip, caramel, citrus, galia melon and a virgin oak-like resin note. Hard to believe that this one has only been in PX.
    • Taste
      87 87
Peat, pepper, almond, orange, salted caramel and blueberry. Here the PX is more prominent.
    • Finish
      88 88
Peat, the ash from a campfire. Salted caramel, blueberry and cocoa.

Alcohol easily noticeable, which is not surprising at 58.6%. Sweet smoke, salt, iodine, sweet bright fruits. Great marzipan with some oak and earth
    • Taste
      88 88
insanely salty, spicy, sweet, so salty caramel. Ordinary oak cargo and great light smoke
    • Finish
      90 90
Medium long finish with a great sweetness in tow

    Whatever Lorion tasted ..

This is a Lagavulin from the PX barrel.

Amazingly mild for the ABV and the young age.

This whisky is really fun and definitely one of my surprises in 2018.

I would most likely compare it to the Laphroaig 10 CS. It's a little bit like a classic Laga16 in bar gauge.

An exciting south coast Islay Malt with strong smoke flavors and great PX notes.

So you want to LAGAVULIN like more @ Scotch Universe!

The wine barrel could be more dominant. Something too spicy in the mouth. 79 points.
    • Nose
Campfire. Sweet marinated pancetta. Smoked lemon peel. Water : It gets sweeter. Nuts come to it.
    • Taste
Intense, certainly because of the alcohol.
Bacon, smoky grain. Subtle sweetness. Water : more pleasant and rounder.
    • Finish
      Medium long and smoky. Charcoal.

Horny stuff! If you are a fan of the unmistakable Laga character and would like to try something off the OA range, you will not go wrong with this Lysithea A. The mixture of the Brennereicharakters with the wonderfully aromatic wood and fruit notes, it just did to me. I wish there would be more independent lagavins, because this whisky shows me why I appreciate the distillery's malts so much!
    • Nose
That one has a Lagavulin in the glass, you can tell directly. Really nice to perceive this unmistakable smell outside the original range. However, the maritime smoldering smoked ham smoke note is not as brutal as when you first pour in a Lagavulin 16. It is rather well integrated in sweet-nutty sherry aromas, creamy malt notes and at the same time a very interesting fruitiness that reminds me of fermented rhubarb and apricots. In the background I also perceive a fragrant sauna wood note. With some oxygen, the Laga smoke pushes something into the background and is replaced by ever more present soft woody flavors that now characterize the nose. Connected to the sweet fruitiness, this reminds of the wonderful smells of a Scottish barrel warehouse.
    • Taste
Here, the strong Lagavulin character is much more present. At the same time the mouth is filled with sweet light fruit notes, some anise and again the fragrant wood flavors.
    • Finish
A lot of spicy-vanilla wood (I would type American Oak) now dominates the mouth without appearing too bitter or too cluttered. On the contrary! Together with the smoldering campfire smoke, a little malt and a soft apricot sweetness, the aromas linger pleasantly and make you want a second sip.

Shop Info: "LYSITHEA A ripened 10 years, or rather 121 months, in a First Fill Pedro Ximenez Sherry Cask and was bottled in a hefty cask strength of 58.6% vol., Of course uncoloured and non-chilled." The independent bottler 'Scotch Universe' adds The name of the distillery is not directly known from its bottlings, but rather encourages the gourmets to go looking for the hidden distillery, but it does provide some very helpful hints. The distillery hidden in the LYSITHEA A, for example, comes from the Scottish island of Islay (south coast) and was founded in 1816. Geographically, this popular distillery is located between the distilleries Ardbeg and Laphroaig ... "
