    • Nose
Very mature. White cheese with peach that slowly dissolves in favor of very warm notes. Delicate and deep, somewhat waxy. It is relatively mild, however.
    • Taste
Creamy but fluid, superb texture. Ripe fruit. Bunnahabhain is still a distillery that I can not easily associate words with.
    • Finish
Deep and long, sparkling and slightly tart.

      Enthusiasm 4/5

[December, 2018] This is another dram out of this year's advent calendar from Cadenhead - which is a good overview of their 2018 releases and I always appreciate the opportunity to do such a samples tasting around christmas time.

The great thing about whisky tasting is: Regardless how long you are into malt you always will find something new like this one. A Bunnahabhain profile that I never had before and that is rather unusual - but unfortunately not to my liking. What else to say? I will certainly not buy a bottle...

Disclaimer: I had a Fettercairn (WB id 117908) right before this dram so maybe that one corrupted my taste buds somewhat. I cannot check this because I had a small Bunna sample only and for sure I will not buy one of these pricey bottles just to check if I really do NOT like it...

The colour is pale gold and the nose offers an unusual sour Bunna profile that reminds me both of sour-dough and fermented fruits. This is not my favourite flavours mix at all but after some breathing nice honey and spicy aromas join in, at least. Very strange, I know such noses rather from Fettercairn, Deanston or Glenturret but not from Bunnahabhain. After about 15 minutes of breathing additional sweaty-cheesy notes pop up that I do not like at all.
    • Taste
      85 85
The taste is better but still a little sourdough bread lurks around. Actually, it narcotises my taste buds because I do not taste many others flavours except some barley sugars, over-ripe fruits and spices. Maybe there are not more? That would be unusual for a Bunna but it can well be if the cask was almost exhausted. No, this taste is not impressive...
    • Finish
      83 83
The whisky arrives warming but not coating on the palate with no distracting moments. The finish is rather short and gets more spicy with a minor drying moment towards the end (plastics). Water just flattens the dram.

beautifully matured malt - I find it more intense on the palate than in the nose - blind I would not recognize him as Bunna - he is still delicious
    • Nose
sweet and malty, the nose is initially closed, but opens with a drop of water, vanilla, banana and green banana peel, waxy waxy, citrus notes, powdered sugar, the nose is very round and calm
    • Taste
peppery with ginger and chilli, mint and coconut cream, wood chips from green wood - dynamically spicy but by no means alcoholic - lemon, yellow watermelon and a hint of pineapple juice, tobacco, green banana, beeswax, salt, green deciduous branches that you chew - rather on the sweet side there is also some acidity as balance - it shifts from spicy to fruity and back again when you chew it
    • Finish
spicy, fruity, tobacco prickles, citrus oil - middling he acts after - initially so intense that you do not even notice that he is gone.

Complicated whisky. On the nose as in the mouth, it is very difficult to define. Very intellectual. A lot of fun all the same.
    • Nose
Nose of a beautiful intensity. We feel that there is no.
      had reduction.
Yellow flower, dandelion. Butter, pastry, vanilla.
Pepper, nutmeg. Peach, apricot, pineapple bark. Light woody.
A little gyokuro, especially on his umami.
    • Taste
In the mouth we are on wood, nutmeg, almond. We still have peach in syrup, pineapple, apricot.
      Provence grass.
Always a pastry chef too. Especially buttered.
    • Finish
Final on citrus, lemon, white flower and butter.

    28-year-old declination at Cadenhead!
Bunna not peaty, but not enough on the nut more, disappointed!
    • Nose
malt, varnish, vanilla, a little lemon and exotic fruits mixed with juicy apple
      some herbs
    • Taste
      malty sweetness, almost oily!
      caramel, butter, cooked vanilla
fruit apple, banana together and a lemony tip
milk chocolate also with its crushed walnut chips
      A bouquet of flowers
    • Finish
      vanilla, varnish, woody finally soaked
      almost acidic apples!
      average finish.

The scent is rich and greasy, hard to explain. The taste is recognizable Bunna; full and rich, pineapple first - but not cheap or sweet. Soft floral and fruit aromas, nothing pronounced or hard. The balance is great, as is often the case with really good whisky, the words are not, the aromas are volatile but beautiful. He comes through more and more powerfully, like the waves of the surf, repeatedly but never exactly the same. Impressive sample that is too small and deserves repetition. This is professional study material.

    Exceptionally well-done ex-Bourbon Bunna bunny!
Exceeds in its elegance nor the fruit packages of Glen Keith Claxton 1994 and the like, but is less intense - probably due to age.
    • Nose
      90 90
Rich, heavily aromatic and closely interwoven fruit bouquet from A like apple to Z like ripe lemon, with honey-baked bananas. For all tropical sweetness but also spicy fragrance that tickles something in the nose, but never too strong, but just right. This is a painted harmony!
    • Taste
      90 90
How supple and oily in the mouth he is! Always fine, well seasoned with a pinch of candied pickled ginger slices here and elderberry nectar as the fruit basket presents itself from sniffing again.
    • Finish
      88 88
Tender wood or rather the idea of the smell of cut off, summerly warm lilac bushes indicate the influence of the barrel, which still lasts, but soon loses its expressive power. But gently and delicately fading away.

A very fine and elegant Bunna. The tropical fruits work really nicely here. I love it! Despite the low alcohol percentage, it is really full of flavour. Not at all watery.
    • Nose
Vanilla, but also pineapple and mango. It’s a bit waxy, lovely! Some citrus notes. Yoghurt. Green apples and pears.
    • Taste
Citrus, followed by grapefruit. Some vanilla. Then tropical fruits, like papaya and green bananas. A hint of apples. And tobacco.
    • Finish
The finish is mid-long to long and is somewhat spicy.
