Whisky Reviews for Tomatin 1988 TWC

My guess was correct, you do not do much wrong with this tomato. If I am also by far not a friend of this distillery (apart from the excellent standard 30s), this single cask will definitely please. Not an extravagant malt with flavor explosions, nor any of these consistently smooth malts of a certain age, which crush one by their maturity. This one has something of both without serving the real superlatives.
    • Nose
After about 10 minutes in the glass intense and classic ex-Bourbon flavors. Strong honey, some oak, green fruits (pears, apples). The tomato comes fresh and almost a little "young" therefore, but responsible for the almost 57% Vol., With which this single Cask was bottled. For a malt of this age quite strong. The longer the malt can breathe in the glass, the more intense and mature the fruit notes become. Likewise, there is something that reminds me of porridge with a little vanilla.
    • Taste
Immediately, the oak is present in the mouth and lies down dull over the taste buds. Even as I am willing to say that this is too much for me, out of the blue the fruit and honey notes are pushing forward. The spicy oak now noticeable in the background, the malt literally clears and releases all the fruit notes that were already present in the nose. But he got the turn, chapeau. Now a slightly spicy-sweet overall picture, the alcohol well integrated and without annoying Fehlnoten. The longer the malt may linger on the tongue, the more intense a green pear - honey note, very delicious.
    • Finish
Long and pleasantly strong, slightly astringent. At the end, a slightly dry mouth without drying out the oral cavity completely. Again, it is believed that the spicy tannins would have already prevailed before it can easily create fruity-sweet notes yet again and deliver a coherent overall picture in the end. Not too spicy, not too dry. That fits!
