Whisky Reviews for Dufftown 1999 GM

The nose is extremely tasty and makes you hungry for more. Unfortunately, the taste of the Dufftown flattens out a bit, wooden bitter aromas dominate. Otherwise I find this bottling successful and a nice change after the many sherry bombs in the Advent season ...

    • Nose
Clear and pure amber shines in the glass. Numerous "legs" stick to the glass wall of my Premium Snifter and flow slowly towards the glass floor. The nose starts off slightly nutty with a sweet hint of fruit, dark yellow fruits dissolve from a hint of vanilla, apricots combine with bananas and a pinch of cinnamon. The alcohol is wonderfully incorporated, caramelized sugar and sticky toffee ensure wonderful sweetness.
    • Taste
The fragrance drips fruity tart with a fine caramelized sugar note on the tongue, followed by dried apricots and minimal abrasion of orange peel. Bananas mix with dry wood tones, dark fruit aromas warm through the palate while a minimally bitter and bitter base note spreads in the throat. Subtle sharpness tickles the tongue, a pinch of white pepper falls on dry wood, slightly resinous notes combine with a hint of licorice and minimal citrus fruit.
    • Finish
Tart and voluminous, dark fruit and wood aromas stick warm on the palate. The mouthfeel is tart, forest air and old walnuts leave the chubby, warm aftertaste for a long time on the palate, oily chewed walnuts swim under the tongue in the excited saliva.

Bright, fiery whisky that burst out of the barrel like a fireball.

Spices and oak. This is a kind of cappuccino with a drop of vanilla and cinnamon. A warm and yet fresh drink. Because the notes of fruit are breaking through. Adding a drop of water, I felt a little caramel and fresh cake.
    • Taste
      87 87
The taste is bright and rich, the influence of the barrel is felt a little strongly. Spices and cinnamon are felt. Dark chocolate with Cayenne pepper. The taste with the addition of water appears soft. The spices recede and the sweetness is revealed.
    • Finish

Bright aftertaste of some warm Indian dessert with spices. And sweet and sharp in the mouth.

If you like oak, this is the place for you. The fire doesn't bother, the barrel dominates and does its job well. Good whisky for wood lovers.
    • Nose
as simple as delicious, lots of wood, spices, vanilla, sweet and strong. Fruits are to be found in vain. Super sweet and tasty with water, maybe candied fruit. The oak goes a little more harmoniously into the overall picture.
    • Taste
holla, tingly, tart, full oak cargo. With water still a lot of oak. And frankly, the rest of the wood and spices are barely there.
    • Finish
Hints of muff, slightly sweet in the background, just tart and delicious oak notes to the front. With water a little sweeter in the tart tenor.

    • Nose
Very finely structured. Starts a bit waxy, aromatic and very like vanilla, tonka bean, banana and tropical fruits. With time flowery accents and oatmeal-like maltiness follow.
With water: sweet biscuits, caramel, coconut oil, tropical fruits and almond milk.
    • Taste
Aromatic, waxy and fine-spicy. Again banana, tropical fruits but this time also cream and flowery reflexes.
With water: significantly more complex, very oily and oily with coconut, almond milk, vanilla and tropical fruits. Really good!
    • Finish
      Long, aromatic, malty, flambé banana.

Sweetness and fruits. Earth and green tea. Wax and minerals. Taking you for a quite complex ride. Full review (in german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2019/07/29/erstkontakt-mit-dufftown/

    Bottler's tasting notes:
    Colour: Dark gold.
Aroma: Layered and inviting: vanilla pod highlighted by delicate honeycomb and fresh straw complement the fragrant pipe tobacco and light oak undertones.
Taste: Creamy vanilla marshmallow matures into drying cocoa powder. Zesty lime and honey balance bitter chocolate, flashes of fresh ginger and ripe tropical fruits add depth.
Finish: Medium, distinctive lingering toasted oak complemented by drying cocoa powder.
