I think for 8 years old this is brilliant.
This was only available in the far East market, to the person who gave me this sample, a massive thank you.
What a great whisky experience and totally unexpected.
The average is coming out at 90p but I will award an extra point because it is only 8 years old.
Smells like stewed white fruits, mixed with white wine, cream and sweet icing sugar.
After a few minutes in the glass some rose petals/water emerge which are very nice and now it basically smells like a Victoria sponge cake?
The nose is evolving & getting sweeter with time in the glass.
Very creamy and quite zesty not unlike some of the quality old blends for the 50`s but there is also some peat and something slightly meaty in the mix. I also get just the faintest of plastic tastes, not detrimental but it is there.
The peat grows and there is also some peppery spice, extremely full bodied for an 8 year.
A little caramel creeps in, this is good but for some reason never really takes off, it promises you the world on the nose and initial taste but never reaches the heights but the pepper gradually grows.
Fruit wise there is grapefruit, a little apple and a little fresh pineapple that is not particularly sweet more on the unripe side.
Still good for 88-90p
Good finish, long for an 8 year with the peat and pepper combo taking control pushing the fruit into the background but it is fighting all the way.
