In my view, that was a bad barrel with a clear false mark. But confirm my relationship with Ben Nevis again. Some are crackers and most of them have a sulfur problem somehow. Is really like truffle hunting, because finding something for me. ;-)
    • Nose

Full sherry board directly after pouring, some smoke, slightly fermented fruit, a little sweat and unfortunately also sulfur. After some life not quite as sherry overpowered, but now ripe yellow fruits. In addition, dark, earthy notes, mineral. A light touch of disinfectant floats in the middle of the bouquet and becomes increasingly strong. Still sulfur, but not so intrusive.
    • Taste

Jo, there's a lot of sherry again. Sweet and heavy, very oily, initially a bit powerless, but then it comes with a time delay. Dark fir honey and tannins come to the back, in the end also a hint of menthol. Again, sulfur.
    • Finish
      78 78
The finish is not overly long, the sweetness is gone relatively quickly, the bitterness stays a little longer, espresso, a touch of ash on the tongue.

I might even have blindly recognized him as Ben Nevis, especially at first smelling. If you know it, these typical herbs will always sparkle.
Strong fellow, the smoke is well integrated and does not harm. He gets better with a little water. Without it remains at solid 86 points.
    • Nose
      87 87
Sweet, spicy, nutty, dark fruits, dates, harsh forest honey, nutmeg, impregnating spray, pickles, light sherry, some phenolic smoke, malt, herbs, menthol
    • Taste
      86 86
Smoke, ash, tart spicy honey, woody, sherry, bitter orange marmalade, coffee, peppery spiciness. Water makes it softer, it takes away the sharpness and it becomes fruity.
    • Finish
      86 86
medium length, wood smoke, light sherry, licorice

An exceptional drop that has a real quality in it.

    Take time. Enjoy.

First it seems closed - there is hardly any smoke whatsoever. Then, intense sherry notes, figs, tobacco, plums, acidic components in the background, and fine barrel and spicy flavors. Complex and intense. If you seek smoke, you will find it, but discreetly.

      With water significantly more fruitiness.
    • Taste
      92 92
Very interwoven, subtle fruits, intense bitter tobacco and dark chocolate, smoke accompanied with light ash and pepper. In the background initially difficult to grasp fruit flavors (see below). The alcohol is still quite strong, slight dryness follows.

It opens up clearly with water. The fruit flavors, with plums, black cherries, currant and dry raisins and a subtle fruit sweetness intensify. The smoke disappears almost entirely.

After a few sips and the appropriate amount of water, a fruit bomb develops.
    • Finish
      91 91
Long, with sour-mint oak, figs, plums and currants merge with light smoke. Dry mint hangs extremely long.
