  1. Ostap scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Whisky with a chic balance, restrained, noble, meaningful.
    • Nose
      90 90
Cognac, soft, sherry, dried fruits, yogurt, a little bit of salty caramel, vanilla, dried mushrooms, perfect balance.
    • Taste
      90 90
      Dried fruits, pepper, dessert.
    • Finish
      89 89
      Dried fruits, oak, pepper, dessert.

    Glass: core Sawmill
    Color: cognac or brewed tea.
Aromatics: very fruity, oriental sweets and dried fruits, a sweet cake with chocolate drops, caramel syrup, packed in the aroma of ancient wood polished furniture
Taste: continues the aroma, raisins, figs, dried apricots, nuts, dark chocolate, some cream and wood, a drop of furniture polish
Finish: very long, enveloping, warm and pleasant. If you smoke - it's time to light a pipe! Good Virginia will go well with this sherry nectar.
    Practically reference sherry: 90

  3. marmeladow scored this whisky 98 points Expert Senior

Grandiose, massive and highly complex. Best for me with a little water = reduction to 46-47%
Leave plenty of time to breathe in the glass and to enjoy in small sips. I took about 90 minutes for the tasting and don't want to miss a moment.

  4. LeChiffre scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

Excellent full, sweet and intense sherry keg-matured malt. Very complex and complex. For me is not considering the price before the GD 18 years.
    • Nose
      90 90
full and very complex; distinct sherry note; Sweet; dark fruits in alcohol (including prune, raisin); spices; a little heavier sweeter than the 18J
    • Taste
      91 91
heavy and complex; very oily-creamy in the mouth, very sweet onset; Dried fruits, beautifully integrated dry oak
    • Finish
      91 91
long and a bit dry; very spicy; Sweetness holds, in addition to light, slightly bitter notes, slightly nutty

Long-time Glendronach fan. Unfortunately, the core range has drastically changed over time (not for the better). I think this is well worth the price tag and prefer it by a mile over the Allardice, but I can't stop myself from comparing this to what it used to be.
    • Nose
      88 88
At first nosing you think this is a dark rum. After it settles you get a super sweet and bright sherry nose - toffee, pecans, and rum-soaked raisins - and then whiffs of smoke.
    • Taste
      84 84
Really sweet and meaty... like honey glazed hickory-smoked beef jerky. Some leathery and chocolatey notes. Too simple, too sweet, and not much sherry character!
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium, a little herbal, some chocolate, and the hickory smoke continues.

Very "loaded" whisky, everyone can feel 21 years old. I was expecting more sweetness, but maybe it's better this way, less obvious.
By adding two drops of water, the alcohol is greatly dampened, while cereals, spices and wood emerge, both in smell and in flavor. Chocolaty finish.
    • Nose
"Heavy" perfume, this is a big hit and the color, almost brown, confirms it. Sherry to the nth degree and many cereals: brioche, marzipan, fruit tart, cooked caramelized fruit, but I expected it to be sweeter. Alcohol makes itself felt
    • Taste
On the palate it is dry and tannic, not very sweet but "heavy" as in the perfume, that is, full of flavor from the years spent in the barrel. The tongue tingles, even in the mouth alcohol makes itself felt. Ripe fruit and caramelized fruit, wood and spices, dark chocolate. I feel a slight sour note that reminds me of something I cannot recognize and describe
    • Finish
Long finish, decisive, not too sweet.

  8. LittlePeat scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
      88 88
Sherry vinegar (unfortunately), coffee, raisins, chocolate cake, brandy pralines with nuts, an alcoholic tinge.
    • Taste
      88 88
A little watery. Coffee with "shot", chocolate cake, brandy pralines.
    • Finish
      87 87
      Brandy chocolates.

I think the 18 is better.
