Whisky Reviews for Tomatin 1990 MBl

My first rating was not tender, there was also little taste to discover. Now that the content of the bottle is decreasing and more oxygen is added, the whisky suddenly appears to open, so that the typical tropical fruit is now clearly visible. What a finish! This therefore clearly needs more time to reveal itself.

Great malt, especially the nose I like so much, as no longer for a long time.

In fact, here comes a so horny over ripe Cantaluope melon around the corner, which gives the hand with an almost black banana. In addition, wonderfully sweet, honey is also aptly mentioned here. In addition, light citrus notes and a little green apple.

Not quite as overwhelming as the nose, but still very nice. Again a load of fruit basket. Then comes a nice pepper note and other spices. The spice now dominates in the mouth and tickles on the tongue. Alcohol is very well integrated. Towards the end I find more fruity notes again, here I definitely have mango. The mouthfeel is now rather creamy and it is getting sweeter. The said ginger I can guess with a lot of goodwill.

Multivitamin Lolly. In addition slightly herbaceous reminiscent of grapefruit and drying pretty quickly.

sweet nettle and sugar melon, cucumber with a touch of dill, some mandarin, mild olive oil, roasted almonds, flamed custard with sugar crust, some coconut milk, fresh birch water, mint and a herbal blend with many flowering herbs, delicate - fresh, lively, delicate balance Oak, herbs and fruit with a hint of wax
    • Taste
      91 91
sweet and spicy with beautiful woody aromas - a wave of reduced melon juice with ginger rolls over the tongue, citrus zests, pineapple, yellow kiwi, white gummy bears, lemon drop, ginger, mint, rosemary - a nice mixture of warming and refreshing cooling
    • Finish
      90 90
Canned pineapple, wax, crystallized lemon zest - spicy - persistent, mint and fresh spicy peppery oak

The nose is initially vegetal (with touches of sap) and resinous (pinecone) and very slightly influenced by citrus fruits (yellow grapefruit peel). After a long aeration, the barrel expresses itself and the notes of noble wood are delicately coated with honey.
    • Taste
      89 89
What a balance! It is remarkably balanced: the alcohol is perfectly integrated and the attack suave. The mouth then opens on spices (white pepper) and citrus (ginger) to extend on more herbaceous touches, even minty. It then rounds off on the unripe fruits ("green" mango and galia melon)
    • Finish
      87 87
The finish is quite short. It is dominated by citrus fruits and spices and seems less well controlled.

    What a powerful multi-fruit drink!
Intense fruit aromas, all more on the tropical side, and beautiful oak notes go hand in hand here. Just great!
    • Nose
      92 92
Overripe pineapple, liquid wild honey, resinous pine shavings, oily lemon, scent of blooming sage.
    • Taste
      92 92
Mango, delicious, ripe mango with juicy flesh, sweet lemon, initially everything slightly waxy and supple. Then a dash of limoncello, a slight tingling spread. Now lychee juice is also added.
    • Finish
      91 91
Both elegant wood and harmonious fruit notes are there as in the nose and in the first taste. A great bourbon barrel matured that ends gently.

He's actually not doing anything wrong, but ultimately doesn't quite suit my taste
    • Nose
a gush of green apple comes towards you, slightly artificial, light peppery spice, waxy, grassy, vanilla, therefore slightly creamy, overall quite fresh, an undertone of dark chocolate, not quite my favorite odor profile
    • Taste
oily, acidic, green apple, tingling at the tip of the tongue, light, effervescent sweetness, some oak on the palate, some grapefruit, the mouthfeel is rather dry, but also fresh
    • Finish
light sweetness, becoming more floral, like a sweetened herbal tea, still a lot of apple
