2018.09.17 Best Old Pulteney to this date..I have yet to taste better.
    • Nose
Dark chocolate, with sea salt (yes those lindt chocolates). Very much dusty cocoa, chocolate covered cherry, ripe red fruits, burned with brown sugar. With water the fruits are much more upfront. Sour/bitter balance
    • Taste
Surprisingly sippable at full abv. Very chocolaty, much more cocoa than fruits, coffee. It takes water very well.

    • Nose
Modern style sherry, very rich and oaky, a can of paint, very fruity, dried apricots, leather and chocolate spices.
    • Taste
Sweet, a lot of raisins, simple but enjoyable. New oak and seasoned sherried wine are playing their part, despite high ABV but drinkable without water. Very salty and coastal as well, suggesting the identity of the distillery.
    • Finish
Hot peppery finish, still a lot of dried fruits such as mango, raisins.

  8. Achany scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Fine sherry bomb with quite some ABV. Some drops of water could have been a good idea, but the sample was too small. Quite a lot of sherry, dark fruits, some leather, some dark chocolate, very sweet and fruity, the spices take some time to arrive, the salt is there at the second sip. finish long and to the fruitiness there is some salty note added. Fine dram enjoyed in wonderful company!

  9. St. Pauli scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

A nice sherry monster if you add water. Without water, it would be around 8 points lower in my book. You could look at it in two ways: either you say
    - nah not for me, it has to taste good without water, or
    - give me the bottle: I dilute the whisky and I end up having good fun with much more than 700 ml of good whisky :)
    • Nose
      88 88
      Colour: deep copper

Full-on sherry notes with quite some alcohol sting. There is ample red fruit, sultana's, a mineral touch of chalk, nutmeg and green mint. Reduced, it's more balanced with some savoury notes, old leather, cola, and Christmas Pudding.
    • Taste
      87 87
This one needs a lot of water, otherwise it's too astringent. Then it's rather good, with a quality of cooked plums and prunes, old leather, dark cherries, oxtail soup, cola and the like. A rather umami feel, which is very nice. The water balances the spices (nutmeg, clove, pepper) quite well.
    • Finish
      88 88
Moderately long, leaving a trace of umami notes: cola, balsamic vinegar, leather, prune, oxtail soup, soy sauce and allspice.

  10. dram-drinker scored this whisky 91 points Moderator

Very powerful and interesting in the positive way, very complex but still fresh and vivid, water recommended - great
    • Nose
      90 90
Very fresh and intense, sherry galore, lots of raisins, toffee, overripe fruits, spices, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, herbs too, whiffs of solvent, indeed also some medicinal notes or iodine - really not bad
    • Taste
      92 92
Punchy, waxy, creamy, good sweetness, toffee, more herbs, oak wood, red fruits, cooked oranges, dark chocolate - very good
    • Finish
      91 91
Long, warm, zesty, more grapefruits, more oak wood and tannins
With water: More teaish, black or green tea
