A lot of spices; cinnamon, cardamon, star anise, cloves from the brandy barrel, dried orange skin, pine wood and oaky. With water: waxy, leathery, damp cloth, kippery, dark fruits and some vanilla in the background.
    • Taste
      87 87
Sweet, smokey and woody on arrival. Oaky, pepper, more spices, some salty notes appearing from time to time. With water: sweetness risen up, more woody and spicier. Hints of white pepper in the end.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium long. Attractive wood notes, a beautiful degree of coffee mingles perfectly with smoke, spices compliment with balance.

For me, the nose is clearly the weak point of this bottling. It looks a bit too pointed and still shy. But then I think the taste and finish are really good. Full and at the same time lively mouthfeel.
Don't smell so much, drink more :-).
    • Nose
It takes time, hand warmth and a good shot of water. Otherwise it is too closed in the nose and the alcohol is a bit too present. Slightly mineral notes. Plus tree sap. Tree sap. Flowerhoney. Malaga cream. Naturally cloudy apple juice. Orange peel. I find my nose a bit snappy for my age.
    • Taste
I like it better in the mouth than in the nose. He comes across as full. Nice sweetness paired with wood flavor. Caramel candies. Roasted almonds. Indeed, certain notes of brandy too. A pleasant peppery sharpness, which I don't attribute to the alcohol, but to the oak. Also something like - I'll call it - "oak acid".
    • Finish
Beautiful wood notes line the mouth and warm it. Then it tingles. Citric acid. Glazed ginger.

Nose: Nice complex nose with the creaminess that comes with brandy barrel ripening. Regardless of the respective whisky, I always have to think a little bit of ice cream with this type of barrel. Goes very well with the Clynelish character. Old and set, it comes across with pickled fruits, waxy, furniture polish, a surprisingly fresh apple in between, marzipan, a little grapefruit, oranges, lots of vanilla. The alcohol is very well integrated, you hardly notice it despite 56%.

Taste: Very oily mouthfeel, very soft then the spice begins to come but very embedded in a chocolate oak, dark and overripe fruits, a little bit acidic and a bit tart, again oranges, sweet-tart the oak becomes stronger. Nothing burns, nothing bothers you, a real delicacy.

Finish: medium to long finish, roasted aromas, sweetened espresso, drying over time, the oak strikes and sticks to the cheeks. This leaves a sweet citrus fruit.

    • Nose
      Spices and custard. Pleasant nose.
    • Taste
Full, sweet ginger, dried oranges, resinous, furniture wax. A hint of bitter oak.
    • Finish
      Some fruity notes.

The various spicy and slightly resinous aromas distinguish this Clynelish with brandy finish clearly from other bottlings. The unusual, quite complex nose that changes over time is its strength, it is tasty to taste. Very well done!

The high alcohol content is initially noticeable, but overall quite well involved. An extraordinary spectrum of aromas develops: spicy, resin, a touch of pine needles, forest honey, dark aromatic wood, brandy and heavy, sweet sherry, many spices; with time, some orange peel, vanilla, while the resinous notes disappear, instead I find old wood / bark. He does not win with water.
    • Taste
      88 88
Powerful and voluminous - the alcohol makes itself felt, dark, sweet fruits, with a little acid; somewhat adorning with oak notes, baking cocoa, walnut, vanilla, spices and cinnamon.
    • Finish
      89 89
The finish is beautifully long with creamy white coffee, baking cocoa, spices and a light brandy note. In addition to the end a little bit of citrus.
