In the evening with a book and dram to bed. Shortly afterwards I fell asleep with the taste of this beautiful, complete and above all very powerful whisky in my mouth. The finish was very long and changed from smoky, to some iodine to fresh heather and honey.
In the morning I woke up and smelled that heather and honey again. Grab a sleepy glass and drink the last leftover. What a god drink.

The Corryvreckan is a real slap in the face, in a good way. It doesn't get much more intense. On the one hand, this may be due to the strong Ardbeg smoke, but also to the high alcohol content and the fresh European oak barrels. In this combination, however, it looks very harmonious and coherent. The fact that he doesn't wear an age doesn't need to be said negatively. The high alcohol content also goes well with it overall. It's great the way it is and can definitely delight lovers of smoky Islay malts.

    • Nose
The intense smoke is immediately in the room. Even on closer inspection, it is absolutely dominant in the nose. It reminds me of tar and phenolic solvents. At first it's hard to identify other flavors behind this smoky veil. The alcohol tingles a little in the nose, but after a few minutes it dissipates a bit. Then the veil of smoke clears more and more. I find sour cherries and also significantly sweeter flavors like caramel, vanilla pudding and herbal candies. The oak also makes itself felt relatively quickly with spicy and slightly peppery notes.
    • Taste
The start is also very intense on the tongue. Here the smoke is dominant again and reminds me a bit of gasoline and resin. The mouthfeel, like the nose, is on the sweeter side. The oak is immediately present. I can also find the herbal sweets again.
    • Finish
The oak becomes more intense and brings spice, some cinnamon and dark chocolate. The finish is medium long and the smoke lingers along with the oak.

      With water:
It seems a bit sweeter to me both in the nose and in the mouth. This weakens the smoke a bit and loses some of its rough edges.
