    • Nose
Smoky salt air, dusty oak, vanilla and fruit - very lively and youthful.
    • Taste
It tastes immediately the young age, although this is already much better than the 10 year old. Sweet smoke and salt in interaction with vanilla, pepper, oak and unripe fruits.
    • Finish
Long and dry with a lot of acidity and a bit of bitterness.

    Laphroaig Tasting Notes:

    Colour:  Bright gold

Nose:   Mild versus the 10 Years Old, soft smoke, pleasant sweet, like new hay

    Body:   Full bodied, smooth

Taste:  Lively oak sweetness, warm peat smoke, fresh nutmeg and toasted almonds. Faint salt

    Finish: Prolonged, mellow

    Tasted on 2014.05.24.

Balance and Conclusion: Traditional Laphroaig style, easy drink, with quite acceptable price (about US$50 in Taiwan before 2011, but discontinued from the OB product line unfortunately). A good Laphroaig whisky, very suitable for such a rainy night.
    • Nose
Alcohol interference, mint, light peat, seaweed, light iodine, pineapple, grass, smoke, sea wind, and butter. 22
    • Taste
Palate: Tar, peat, iodine, tangerine peel, dark chocolate, salty, smoke, and a little black pepper. Warm.  22
    • Finish
Finish: Medium to long, tar, salty, light peat and iodine, a little dry and tannic. 21

An excellent Laphroaig. Can be the most advanced of the OB range?

  8. hsmithjr scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A better whisky than the 10, but maybe not a better Laphroaig.
    • Nose
Peat smoke.  Tarred rope.  Asphalt.  Some lemon zest.
    • Taste
Sweet.  Powerful peat smoke.  Sulphur.  Fresh cut grass.
    • Finish
Very long and warming.  A big hug of peat.

  9. Quaker scored this whisky 87 points Member Senior

A superb malt at a great price! (as long as there is stock ...) !!
-> The version tested in these notes is that of 2000.
    • Nose
Very nice nose, subtle and complex. It is woody and a well integrated peat supports a multitude of scents. He is a sailor. After aeration notes of fruits are released: pineapple, orange, grapefruit and some exotic fruits. Smell of hay too.
    • Taste
The mouth is reminiscent of the nose but notes stand out more particularly: lemon, other fruits and especially spices.
    • Finish
A final of very good length, fine.
