Nose: A ruff arsed sherry hit to the nostrils! Nutella! Seriously, this reeks of nougat and Fererro Rocher, a clear M*callan marker for me. The alcohol feels a bit. Its even a bit rough to be honest, but not unpleasantly so. Is that a hint of peat or just the oakchar? A few drops of water and we’re almost hitting Mac12 territories. Okay, this is too obvious now guys. Pears, white grapes, overripe banana and nougat again.Mouth: Salty chocolate and hazelnuts, brown sugar and a tiny hint of peat. Develops on caramel, cocoa powder and tinned pears. Gets meaty and pleasantly bitter in the medium long finish. The alcohol still feels a bit, and the roughness is definetly there. It’s quite a character!Comments: This is a beast that needs to be tamed with water. Reminds me of some of the younger G&M Speymalt Macs that I’ve tried in the past. The provenance of this cask is quite obvious. Fair price tag!

Odor: medium bouquet, German. on the nutty sweet side, well integrated alcohol, not incredibly complex, but entertaining
Taste: Sweet bite, spicy oak, uncomplicated, according to bitter note, coffee notes, tobacco, med. until long reverberation, bitter almond again
Color: brightening copper gold, miitl. WR, of course
Conclusion: good, young Sherry Dram - tasty, but unfortunately also a bit interchangeable

easy drinking with some water, you wouldn't expect the whisky to be just 10 years.
But it would have been better if he rested in the cask for some more years. Maybe the bitterness would have taken over, but overall, you don't need to try that one or spend 100 Euros on a full bottle.

And no, this is not a Mac to me... can't tell, but there is not that typical distillery character you can expect from a Macallan

tried it again, this time without the help of my favorite taste enhancer, and the results are less than stellar. still, i enjoyed it quite a bit.
    • Nose
      83 83
grapes and chocolate-dipped cherries.. a hint of dirty sherry.. fresh wood polish.. all subdued and playing very hard to get.
    • Taste
      86 86
the alcohol sting comes first, followed by creamy caramel and some spicy oak.. sour-cherry-filled chocolate bonbons.. sweet chamomile tea.. not much of a story, but pleasant and very drinkable.
    • Finish
      82 82
short to medium and on the spicy side.. a bit of pepper and chocolate with hot chilly flakes.. the sweet tooth is satisfied.

the nose is better without water (it’s quite magnificent, actually).. while a bit of dilution is needed when tasting

first, I need to duck and dance around the strong outbursts of alcohol in order to meet the interesting olfactory offerings hidden beneath..

Unique combination of pine and coconut.. mountain forest in the tropics.. butter and toast.. the bitterness varies from soft to strong, i get a fleeting odor of a public toilet, not necessarily unpleasant, but certainly surprising.. wormwood.. poached apples and overripe bananas.. a small memory of a sherried Whisky-Doris Ben Nevis.. grapefruit and green limes.. the smoke from a distant fire.. freshly roasted coffee.. it’s a dream!
    • Taste
      86 86
Bitter-sweet and dry.. chewed aspirin with honey.. heavy oak tannins that manage to still stay afloat.. a slice of lemon with vanilla-sugar sprinkled on top.. dark chocolate.. loads of anise and licorice.. stays strong, even with water, the very embodiment of a young, brash spirit
    • Finish
      84 84
Very restrained.. it bites a bit.. the dryness lingers for a long time.. a sudden image of forêt-noir gateau

Yup, this may very well be Macallan. There's still some citric youth to be sensed throughout, but the sherried aspect more than makes up for it. Compared with the follow-up 11 y.o. (WID 126535), this one is more subdued and refined: clearly a superior spirit that needs less time to integrate. That being said, it's still a pretty young and brash whisky, no subtle affair. If you're into sherried whiskies with an intense fruit-and-chocolate combo and don't mind some young(ish) spirit shining through, this one is a no-brainer. And oh yeah: it takes water extremely well.

This one starts off pretty nice and promising in the nose. But in the finish it doesn't quite meet its expectations.

Pretty strong alcohol, fruity, prunes, raisins, milkchocolate, nuts, toffee as well. A bit floral, honey, and peach.

Pretty strong and powerful, peppers. Honey, raisins, prunes. Some caramel sweetness, toffee, some nuts, and more pepper.
    • Finish

Still pickering, some honey, coffee now. Pretty short suddenly, later on a bit stronger, some caramel.

This is certainly not a bad whisky, but it is also not as good as its older brother. The light sherry influence pleases me, but it just misses some complexity and development. But we will try another sibling next year in case another will be released.
    • Nose
      82 82
A typical sherry nose right from the start. Raisins, other dried fruits like plums and figs light, and (luckily) only hint of sulphur. The sherry indeed appears modest. Then come honey glaze, new leather, a hint of new magazines, or maybe those ball points (we shall mention no brands here). There are some fresh fruits in between, probably banana, peaches and figs. Not too complex, but not bad either.
    • Taste
      86 86
The palate directly has a very reasonable balance, with a light sherry influences. Hints of leather, lots of raisin cakes, honey, walnut cake, plums sauce. It is rather lovely. It continues with lots of fresh figs, again lovely, and for the rest it stays mostly the same. Not too much development, maybe a tad boring. The finish has more raisins, walnut cake, some pecan nuts and a hint of sweet liquorice perhaps, but it fades reasonably quickly.

Not very complex but it's only 10 years old. This is a more intensive sherry whisky than I had expected by colour. A good one, indeed.
    • Nose
Lots of caramel, hazelnut, caramel and fudge again. Slightly alcoholic acerbity (not surprising at 55.2% vol.) overripe fruits or maybe more like pear with chocolate sauce.
    • Taste
Chocolate up front, hint of bitterness, sparkling pepper (alcohol), hazelnut.
    • Finish
Long, stays on the tongue with the bitterness and the wood/hazelnut.

Nose: What a fudge bomb! Creamy caramel, nut nougat, thickened orange juice, vegetable juice, warming alcohol and burned out oak. What a crazy nose. In the beginning only Fudge but over time then comes out some fruit and so a "tomato juice" note. Clove also joins after the first sip.
Taste: creamy, some juvenile game, dark sherry raisins), a huge nut-nougat note and milk chocolate, served with a little clove; the finish starts warming with rum raisins and nut nougat in the finish. This remains medium in length and is always nuttier backwards
Good beefy malt with very own character but you have to stand on dark and nutty flavors.

    VanZuylen wrote on their website:
"The Maltman bottled three Secret Speyside whiskys that did not come from Glenfarclas in 2017. Now there is one from 2007 that was distilled at Macallan just like the previous one in February 2007. The whisky got its ripening on sherry butt # 10900. It was bottled at the age of ten in January 2018. A total of 804 bottles are available, the cask strength is 55.2%, an old-fashioned good Macallan, full and powerful with rich sherry influences. "
