In the glass, the strong gold-colored Craigallechie 13, uncolored, unfiltered and with 46 percent alcohol by volume. It was supposed to serve as summer whisky, but it is more complex than expected in the glass.

When you smell it in, citrus fruits, some fermented hay and a light Silex tone. Then gooseberries, fresh apple and green pears follow. Some mint and slight herbal notes can be seen.
The whisky needs some air in the glass, but then delivers an exciting aroma profile.

On the palate, initially very unspectacular and reserved. Creamy sweetness is replaced by white pepper and mint, a little tangerine and quince form the fruit. The mouth is lined with velvety, but the aromas are a little too blurred for me.
With a drop of water the oily character is strengthened and the fruit note changes towards white gummy bears.
    • Finish
      86 86
With a medium length finish, the fruit notes change with a little mint to a persistent and fresh sweetness. The aftertaste is very pleasant and invigorating.

The distillery continues to use traditional worm tubs to cool the distillate. They give the whisky a special taste.

Pleasant, I will not say that just some component protrudes, moderately fruity, moderately herbaceous, slips something farm-agricultural) drinkable, but not watery, light herbal bitterness in taste. I didn't expect anything special from this molt, but the specimen turned out to be quite wonderful. Really liked it!

Very dry, sweet baked apples in sugar, apple juice, sometimes it seems slightly salty, some kind of spicy dry, herbaceous, reminded Aultmore 12, but tastier and richer.
The taste is dense, sweet, oaky, even bitter, you can feel the strength, tasty, I like the woody taste.
The finish is oak, in the end is good, rich and oak, reminiscent of the minerality of Aultmore 12, and a little peaty Ardmore.

    • Nose
Wax, poached fruits, but also fresh fruits. Slightly vegetal, on the straw. Scented, it gets a little confused with the opening.
A little water revitalizes it and offers nice notes of hazelnut.
    • Taste
Creamy, oily, spicy, typically what Speyside can do best.
With water, silky, thick, beautiful woody notes.
    • Finish
Spicy, creamy, lining, beautiful caressing presence.
More accurate on spices (clove) with water.

[September, 2018] Ooh, no one rated the 2017 batch of this Craigellachie 13-years old so far - either they all placed their score with the standard bottle or...

...I do not care, actually! The colour of this dram is jonquiripe corn and the nose offers a fresh and bold impression of home-grown fruits (apples, pears, peaches), honeys, sugars and some herbs and spices. Not too bad for a 13-years old, actually I like this! The dram arrives warming and coating in the mouth with a very fine creamy feeling and no distracting moments at all - wow, that is an excellent mouthfeel for such a standard edition! The taste is not really layered but composed of delicious flavours like different sugars, some white chocolate, ripe home-grown fruits, spices and perfectly fitting wooden notes. Very balanced and quite delicious, indeed! The finish is long and adds more spices without getting bitter or drying. Water releases more chalky-mineralic-oily notes in the nose (I like that) and turns the taste smoother - actually, I like this dram both neat and a little reduced.

Hey, this is the best younger (below 15-years) standard edition I had this year - not kidding! Flawless, quite interesting to explore and extremely quaffable - a perfectly arranged batch of high-quality Craigellachie spirits. My compliments to all that were involved in this excellent cask selection...
