Whisky Reviews for Lambay Whiskey Single Malt

15 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 81.65 points

Produced by a distillery in West Cork, then taken to Lambay for finishing for 6 months in cognac casks. Whiskey is typically less than 6 years old.

First impressions: tasty, fruity, creamy-sweet with a lot of malt and a hint of cognac aromas, long finish, quite complex and becoming tastier with every sip. Nosing corresponded to key and finish, very nicely balanced, interesting Irishman, at best the price seems a bit too high.
He couldn't keep up the high starting level until the end. Smooth, uncomplicated malt with fruity-wine aromas.
    • Nose
      85 85
mild, elegant and fruity (fruit salad, fresh pome fruits) with a little cognac
    • Taste
      86 86
creamy-mild, tasty, later also well integrated oak spice. Lots of vanilla sweetness in addition to fruit salad, grapes and also discrete cognac aromas
    • Finish
      84 84
just under medium length, but fades a little quickly and finishes off with spice and slight bitterness

What could be more unpleasant that you are going to drink an honest dram of Irish whisky, and they give you cognac?! One of my least favorite finishes.
    • Nose
      76 76
Sweet vanilla smell, strongly interrupted by cognac aroma.
    • Taste
      76 76
Sweet taste of vanilla, which happens in young cognacs.
    • Finish
      75 75
      The same finish.

Around the duchess. A very simple and uncomplicated whisky, I would not buy it. The lightest flavor-aroma saturation I've ever encountered. But there are no offnotes, so there is no point in underestimating the score either.
    • Nose
Classic. Duchess as in Glenfiddich 12 or Loch Lomond Classic
    • Taste
Duchess. Watery. Slightly hot, red pepper. Homemade lollipops. Light woody-grain notes. Very sweet, but there is nowhere to be diluted further.
    • Finish
      Duchess. Tree.

Like Lambay’s blend, this is bourbon-matured malt with a cognac cask finish. Those cognac casks are at the heart of Lambay’s signature, as is the partnership between the Baring family and Camus. [Another pathetic 1cl sample in single-use plastic. Pfft!]

N: This instantly leaves the blend behind, overtaking the Hinch too with more notes from deeper layers.
T: So very honeyed and syrupy, fruits covered in the stuff. Sweet-sour fruity honey it is.

F: Keeps going on down that same route. Immersive, my palate is coated and wilfully submits.

C: Delicious. Not sure I can detect the cognac influence too much [which I imagine is deliberate], though maybe the honeyed varnish note is that influence.

Very pleasant malt. Fresh and yet ripe in taste
    • Nose
      90 90
Fresh, beautiful fragrance, very pleasant, banana stands out clearly, vanilla and pastries are combined, very great
    • Taste
      88 88
Fruity with wine notes, hints of nuts, nice creaminess, later a maltiness is added, in the end the oak is nice
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium length, dry, citrus fruit is noticeable, at the end the cognac barrel comes through

He drank this sample at the tasting in Yalta, one can say first in line, 2 samples were presented by Lambay, I did not like both. This pattern is very simple and not expressive. The description did not, did not even want to memorize.

N- Even more gummy, more feinty compared to the Blended version. Tighter on aroma with more depth. Tea-ish , nutmeg and zesty. Eucalyptus, leafy clean and white pepper. When those fore-note subside, breath in the whiff of soft sea air and sea shells, quite the like of Old Pulteney. (86/20)

P- Feel the nice weight on palate. Peppery, malt, dried fruits, floral with drift of candy. (86/20)

F- Medium, zesty, spicy pepper, honey, nutty and orange caramel, sauce of crepe suzette with mints leaf. (86/20)

B/B- 87/21, Quite a well done new core range release.

    Cr- 2, Fr- 1, Fl- 2, Pt- 0, Ft- 3, Sp-0, Wd-3, Wn-2, Sc-1

    Weighted Rate- 81pt

very surprising; I did not know what to expect from this Irish whiskey finished in Cognac, but I like it very much. This comes to me as a fresh, fruity summer drink that I will often enjoy in the coming months
    • Nose
      88 88
refreshing, fruity, sweetness, alcohol nicely bound in the dram
    • Taste
      88 88
No trace of alcohol can be found here either, dangerously easy to drink. Here too, the sweet fruity flavors dominate and the whole makes a successful impression for me
    • Finish
      86 86
here the low ABV is clearly noticeable, how nice would it have been if this whiskey had been bottled at a minimum of 46%
