Unique bottle by Bruichladdich (story will follow). Exceptional quality! Bottled at the exact sweet spot.
    • Nose
The nose is a bit covered by the high abv but man is there an exceptional malt behind it. Red fruits, malted barley, various spices and a wee hint of rhubarb. It gives that rather ‘dark’/dirt/earthy farmhouse orientated character Bruichladdich often does. Which is not being overpowered by the heavy sherry maturation it got. There is also a hint of cheese to it.
    • Taste
Full bodied, sweet, rich, round and gentle. Red fruit dominated palate. It’s is surprisingly mature for it’s young age. Although it has a very high ABV, the taste does not need a whole lot of water. What it does need is time. Shortly after pouring it tends to have a wee sulfur note to it but this disapears completely after 10-15 minutes.
    • Finish
Long length. Goes on and on. It gives a very pleasant, soft, creamy feeling in the mouth for a long time. Dried spices, toasted wood, and a hint of pepper at the very end.

Tasted at the same tasting as Erik1908.
A great malt, very well made and I guess bottled at the exact sweet spot. Can handle quite some water in my humble opinion.

Malty, sherry, wet pine forest, red fruit marmalade. But I think the high ABV closes the nose a bit.
With water: Opens up very nicely. Loads of full and creamy sherry notes. Leather and shoe polish.

Hit of alcohol. Liquorish, huge sherry impact, loads of sweetness but again the wet forest note.
With water: The alcohol burst is gone. In place of it loads of cream, sherry notes, what in we, in The Netherlands, call boterbabbelaars. Very nice oily coating as mouthfeel
    • Finish
      88 88
Long length. Quite some sherry notes. Again liquorish and some red fruit candy. Fades away a tad bitter.
with water: Not much changes, although it gets more creamy and less bitter

I tasted this whisky during a Scottish Islands tasting with my friends. Before opening it we were told the great story behind this bottling and why it is not for sale in any shop. I will leave this story to the owner of the bottle to write it down here.

To cut a long story short, this is a really great Laddy bottle. I am only left with a 3 cl sample which I will open when the time is right.

Nice balance between alcohol, sherry and sweetness.
    • Taste

Full bodied. Sweet, sherry influences are great. Drops of water can be added, but not too many. I did not want to spoil this once in a lifetime experience.
    • Finish
      88 88
      Long and rich.
