Whisky Reviews for Girvan 1994 CWC

This is another quality aged grain from Girvan. The only one that beats this is the 53 year old. All those sherry bomb lovers out there have to give this a try and it will cost you half of what a single malt would cost you. I have made my way down this bottle very quickly and enjoyed every last drop.

I've always thought single grain never has a strong nose, not a bad one, just not strong. As this has been matured in a sherry cask for 23years the sherry notes are there, red fruits etc. What I love about it though is the grain tucks in nicely with those red fruits and remains subtle. There are also hints of fresh coffee and toffee apple.

This is wonderful stuff and very well balanced. You can taste the quality of the matured grain. It's very succulent. That sherry influence is quite dominant as you expect and the grain takes a back seat but it knows where it's going, it's subtle like a whisper in the ear. This is very drinkable and no water needed. It has a warm and creamy texture with lots of red fruits.

A medium to long. Those sherry notes fade away nicely to leave a slick buttery finish just to remind you that it is single grain you are drinking

A lovely sample courtesy of karloff.

      Oh this is deliciously "posh".
An almost sparkling amber gold colour.
      Soft rounded sherry notes.
The basic grain notes barely notisable in the background.
Reminds me a bit of the Highland Queen 30YO blend.
Full of dark fruits, leather and coffee.
Hardly noticable that it is a CS.

This is like a spiked sweet cream sherry.
No off notes from neither spirit nor wood.
Juicy over-ripe plums, dark bitter chocolate.
From mid-way there are some quality wet wood notes.
A few drops of water doesn't change much, except giving you one more sip from the glass.

      Quite long. Slightly drying wood.
