Notes also available in french on the whisky blog ;) http://www.justanotherdram.com/en/tasting-notes/glengoyne-15yo-2.html
    • Nose
Fruity aromas, all freshness and lightness. We find, as promised, aromas of lemons but also oranges. A touch of vanilla and a hint of caramel, many thanks to the bourbon casks, are also felt.
    • Taste
A mouth a little bit oily and greasy, something that I appreciate very much because this sensation in the mouth is very pleasant. We stay on lemons, the hints of oranges are a little more shy than with the nose. There are also notes of fresh walnuts.
    • Finish
Medium lenght, on vanilla and apples (i didn’t notice these apples before that).

    Aroma:
Fresh, fruity, light, tastes the same. Citruses, fanilla, citro, spices.
    Taste:
Fruits, sweet spices, lemon, orange, pastries.
Score 87, better than good, very drinkable, but falls short of excellent.

Sweet, light and a bit artificial. Honey, vanilla, mild toffee, cake, apple, citrussy, pineapple, also some wood glue and nutmeg.
    • Taste
      83 83
Juicy, vanilla, honey, pineapple, some bitter citrus and a subtle spiciness.
    • Finish
      82 82
Short to medium: vanilla cake and some dissipating oak wood spices.

To note. Glengoyne have discontinued this now as they require it for their 18 year old, so stock up now, either to drink or to speculate.

  7. SwiftyMcVeigh scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Citrus and pineapple flavors, honey, vanilla and cinnamon in the nose, good balance, balanced.

In the mouth then oily and slightly tingling, apple, tropical fruits, vanilla and citrus on the go, the oak makes itself felt.

The finish medium-long with notes of chocolate and slightly dark.

The bottle gets better with decreasing level, the whisky needs air in the glass and some time to open. A very nice malt.

Sweet fruit: apple, pear, pineapple. You can also observe some vanilla. Somewhere is the somewhat musty smell of cooked vegetables.
    • Taste
      84 84
Less watery than the younger ones in this range. The fruity from the nose comes out nicely. A border of pepper.
    • Finish
      83 83
Despite the pepper in the taste, the finish is not unpleasant. Medium long, sweet and fruity.

    A strong, good Highland Malt!

    • Taste
      sweet fruity onset, blood orange, spices, oak, vanilla, dry sherry; oily creamy body;
    • Finish
      mild, medium-long, dry, spice sounds;

A typical 'very easy to drink'-dram. Just enough body to avoid a watery mouthfeel, but only a very very light pepper so it won't burn in any case. Smooth, sweet, honey and vanille.
Pleasant, but you actually drink it and hardly notice it...

Glengoyne is well known for its sherry-forward style, however its younger expressions ably demonstrate that its spirit is equally at home in ex-bourbon wood. The 15 year old is somewhat at the intersection of this in terms of the Glengoyne range – it’s certainly a sherried malt, however the ex-bourbon influence is still perceivable. Both aspects are well judged here, in a vatting that still typifies the distillery’s sherry-forward ethos, but doesn’t sledgehammer it home (there are other whiskies of a similar age, or younger which serve that part of the market). The end result is a good value, balanced whisky that should certainly be considered as a solid daily drinker if you like the underlying style and character.

    • Nose
Quite sweet with the 1st fill sherry influence reasonably prominent and delivering caramel, toffee, red berries, spent coffee and almonds. Deeper aromas develop as the glass sits for a few minutes – chocolate nibs and hazelnuts. Running throughout the whisky is the aroma from the ex-bourbon and refill barrels – creamy vanilla custard and red apples. Both sides of the coin integrate well. Water refocuses the fruit element towards citrus – lemon peels and particularly orange coming through, alongside stem ginger.
    • Taste
Silky and slightly oily in texture – and again with sherry at the leading edge. An arrival packed full of caramel, burnt toffee, walnuts and hazelnuts and then bitter spicing – pepper and ginger. In the mid to back palate, more sophistication – tart red apples, sour citrus and brighter, sweeter honey. The addition of water again releases orange zest, alongside red hedgerow berries and a sprinkling of nutmeg.
    • Finish
Medium, drying quickly in the mouth and with pepper, apple, oak and vanilla.
