    Tasted parallel to the Cask 182. This is darker and clearly shows the sherry casks. It always looks classy, old and elegant - a complex top whisky;
    [Color] amber;
    • Nose
      heavy, ripe fruits (peach, plums), clearly sherry, spices, tobacco, smells "old";
    • Taste
      full, ripe, fruity, peach, oranges, sherry, brown sugar, soft smoke, oily, a little salt, licorice, spice, noble and complex;
    • Finish
      long and elegant; sweet liquorice resounds;

    a very special top filling from Springbank, in direct comparison also better than barrel no. 182 (WB-ID 108740)

    very aromatic, very noble, very intense, long-ripened taste
    • Nose
      very intense typical heavy fruity spring bench smell, a lot of sherry, ripe old fruits, old plums, oak, you can smell the old age and the long ripening period
    • Taste
      full-bodied, ripe, soft appearance, remains elegant and complex, intense fruity sherry, oranges, full fruit note, brown sugar, very complex
    • Finish
      long very soft, fruity, long-lasting finish; long, intensely fruity aftertaste,
      Sherry flavor still clearly noticeable

  3. ARDBERG scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

    A fantastic Springbank with a surprise old Ardbeggian finish if you chew the dram long enough.

    From a sample.
    • Nose

      What a full and strong mineral Springbank nose. Ripe peaches, mangosteens and quince paired with candied malt served on a quite peaty (rather than smoky) dunnage warehouse floor.
      I can smell the refill wood that was at work here, getting slightly dry with a hint of tobacco at the end if inhaled deeply. Though I would be at a loss with respect to sherry type. Amoroso?

      Btw, time to let it breathe is incredibly rewarding.
    • Taste
      92 92
      Peat and a full malty sweetness at first, then ripe sweet peaches and yellow plums with lingering peaty sweetness covering the mouth.

      The nose replicates basically in the mouth.
    • Finish
      93 93
      Quite long, warming, adding bandages, tar and sweet liquorice. This reminds me of old Islays, i.e. good ol' Ardbeg times, fantastic on this account.

      Very different compared to nose and taste and rather unexpected.

    Great Malt - no ifs, no buts. I would be interested to know what kind of sherry was in the barrel before, as I have not discovered any Oloroso-typical notes, I also exclude PX. A fino vllt?
    • Nose
      starts surprisingly sweetly in the nose, fully ripe peach, grape seeds, yellow plum (slightly sour) and apple peel. Behind it the earthy-mineral Springbank character note (often reminds me of shell limestone, so also here), as well as a very soft smoke (rather sooty). Extremely harmonious, vanilla comes through, plus some gum and fresh walnuts at the end. The sweeter the longer he breathes
    • Taste
      immediate start, extremely charged and present. Wonderfully oily in the texture. Goes strong in the citrus, lemongrass, grapefruit and pomelo. Becomes astringent, but in a pleasant way. Accompanied by the age surprising freshness of a well-known salt association, as well as black pepper tickling the tip of the tongue. Wonderful smoky note among everything, which remains wonderfully discreet after 22 years and gives the whisky just the right amount of additional complexity. In the finish, dry wood, no trace of bitterness
    • Finish
      Remains long and creamy, almost dull in the throat due to the dryness
