    -Blind tasting-
    Interesting, a spring bench. And then also from a sherry barrel. The barrel does not impose itself at all. On the tongue he has a lot of fun and doesn't look like almost 50%, but rather like almost 60%. And you don't really notice the age - though: there is a dryness on the tongue and in the finish - but, maybe, yes ...
    • Nose
      89 89
      Initially has a small alcoholic sting - a little oxygen should not harm that, so let it stand for a while.
      So now. Light fruits (green apple, apricots, lemon), honey, vanilla. Sweet and creamy, with some malt and a hint of cereals. Light seasoning, not too intense.
    • Taste
      89 89
      Pretty strong start. Very creamy and full, fruity sweet and at the same time salty. Sweet honeydew melon, apricot, lemon, vanilla, honey, malt. Over time, a certain dryness in the oral cavity develops. Freshly washed laundry in the wind, gummy bears.
    • Finish
      88 88
      Medium length, much drier than on the tongue. Salt, honeydew melon, vanilla, fresh biscuit dough, toffee. Finally, a slightly musty cellar aroma - or maybe a feeling of damp, soaked cork.

    A surprising amount of peat for the age, the sherry is not noticeable. Great mature whisky from Campbelltown with clear springbang distillery style.
    • Nose
      light, striking peat, orange citrus peel, sweet and spicy. It cries for spring bench.
    • Taste
      strong, peppery, grassy, somewhat floral, but also orange notes again. Citrus zest.
    • Finish
      peatier than expected. Tart, peppery, spicy, lots of citrus peel, tart and peaty with lots of wood.

    Notes from a blind tasting
    • Nose
      Malty, fruity. Hops, oranges, peaches, limes, earthy, slightly mineral notes, forest honey and hints of vanilla
    • Taste
      Fruity. Blood oranges, peaches, limes and slightly sour apples. With a longer retention time in the mouth creamy, creme brulee with clove and nutmeg. The earthy-mineral notes are back, slightly musty. The alcohol squeezes a little. Milk coffee
    • Finish
      Becoming dryer. Slightly salty. Fudge, bourbon vanilla and roasted aromas. But again earthy and slightly musty.

    Had it in the parallel tasting with Cask 188. Both similar parameters and yet different.
    This is lighter, the Oloroso barrels are difficult to see, I would have guessed wine barrels.
    [Color] honey - still a top whisky!
    • Nose
      floral, fruity, pineapple, honey, vanilla, soft, no oak / spice, no smoke;
    • Taste
      fresh, lively, flowery, fruity (pineapple, grapes), winey, sparkling, slightly acidic, beautifully balanced and complex;
    • Finish
      medium to long, honey, sweet fruits;

    a very good original special filling from Springbank, the age would not be guessed, looks younger, sparklingly fresh, the style completely different from a classic old Sherry Malt from Springbank

    In direct comparison to barrel 188 (WB-ID: 108741) it is a good 2 points behind, but still a great whisky and a special bottling of spring bench
    • Nose
      very fruity dry but subtle smell, not as intense and extreme as usual with spring bench (reminiscent of Glenfarclas 25 years or 30 years), floral, pineapple, honey, vanilla, hardly recognizable oak,
    • Taste
      a fresh, lively, floral and fruity appearance (you hardly feel the age), grapes, reminiscent of "wine barrel storage" (has a tingling mouthfeel (like in young white wines), round and balanced, needs some water, sweet finish
    • Finish
      medium-long fruity-sweet finish; medium-long fruity aftertaste

    Crazy, how different these identical matured whiskys are. This one is much less dirty, but juicier and fuller in the sweet fruit. I like both very much, so here too 93 points.
    • Nose
      the alcohol is more present than the sister barrel (Cask No. 188), but does not bother much. Immediately thereafter, a buttery-soft fruit sweetness floods the nose. Reminiscent of overripe banana or platter particles with vanilla pudding filling. The Springbank character just keeps so noticeable in the background, a slight touch of potting soil and warm tone. Tanned butter, roasted cashews and latte
    • Taste
      clearly vanillig at the beginning, also here again the typical for older Springbanks oiliness. A tangy pineapple with light residual acid comes to light, accompanied by fresh red chili. The small Schärfekick fades quickly, replaced again by beautiful fruit and slightly bitter green tea. The malt is getting drier, milk chocolate and a mild Nussigkeit (slightly salted cashews) let me actually tap on Oloroso-Sherry
    • Finish
      No noticeable amount of smoke, which I do not miss either. Wonderfully warm in the throat
