Everything that makes a Talisker is already there, even if not as pronounced. Since the Talisker is available for the same price at 10 years old, I would rather go for this one.
    • Nose
First sweet and tart citrus with campfire and barbecue smoke. The citrus fruit is becoming more and more orange-red. Plus sea salt, algae and a woody note. Currants and smoky honey in the background.
    • Taste
Oily with a light sweetness, green apple and some salt. Then a clear, peppery spiciness builds up. Here, too, some honey and herbs. Except for the apple, nothing is reminiscent of fruit, the aromas are all rather weak.
    • Finish
Here first herbs, pepper and sweet smoke. Overall quite simple, the pepper lingers on the palate with the smoke for a medium length.

Talisker Skye is the Isle of Skye's oldest distillery's ode to its contrasting landscape. Since 2015, the whisky has been produced directly on the rough sea and matured in American refill and toasted oak casks, with a slightly larger proportion of toasted casks. This gives the single malt the maritime-smoky note to get the feeling of spending a day on the coast of the Isle of Skye.

Well, this is a very, very average whisky in the peat/smoke section. There's really nothing special about it. I can't think of a reason why anyone would score this one higher than a 7. Maybe when you have less to compare it with. Even in the same flavour/price range there are better one's to buy.

Let's start by viewing the whisky. A nice deep I would almost say coppery color. And 45.8% alcohol.

Let's see what scents we can get out of it.

What strikes me first is how sweet this whisky smells. Clearly sweet fruits such as an apple and pear are present. Maybe even a caramelized apple.

Furthermore, a subtle touch of smoke. No peat bomb. For the rest, I find it quite closed and I don't get much out of it.

    Time for the first sip.

First sweet fruits, apple, pear and peach come to mind first. honey, caramel and then the peat, smoke and a pepper.

Sip 2 and roll some more with the whisky through the mouth that salty really comes up.

This whisky really develops in your mouth. Starting with soft and sweet and then closing strong and spicy.

This really gives you a taste of everything.

The aftertaste is warming by pepper and is medium long I would say.

The aftertaste starts quite powerful with a lot of pepper and smoke and then decreases fairly quickly to a more comfortable aftertaste.

Pleasantly smoked. Spice and wood. Otherwise fresh and mild with a little dried fruit. The alcohol is refined and mild. Very straightforward without being boring.
    • Taste
      70 70
Medium smoke and peat. Spicy and salt on the tongue. The alcohol is soft and does not burn significantly. There is a little fruit in the aftertaste, and smoke and peat are quickly disappearing. There are hints of complexity, but it is fleeting and disappears quickly.
    • Finish
      75 75
Nice whisky that is easy to go to. I imagine it is a good choice to introduce those who are curious about more complex, smoky types. Well-made and balanced.

In itself not overwhelming, but hard to set aside - almost better to smell than to drink.

    Wow, what is that?
    A Talisker?
Where is the chilli, the salt, the sea?
For me this comes with only one dimension, a little smoke

I fell in love, for me a horny malt

floury brown apple, red fruit, sherry becomes more, good sweetness, slightly raisins, minimal smoke
    • Taste
oily and soft on the palate
good sherry !!, dark chocolate, coffee, beautiful oak, sweetness, slightly raisins, spicy, the alcohol is good
    • Finish
      long
slightly oak, good sherry, sweetness and bitterness alternate

Very tasty. Really island with salt and iodine notes. Also has elements of light peat smoke, malt and raisins. A little bit spicy and has long and stable warming finish.

I will not make the old grumpy who compares this Skye to the old 10 years old. Yes, it's much more accessible, almost sweet, compared to the austerity of its predecessor. Some will say sweetened. But the identity persists - I recognized Talisker blindly. And I still say that for thirty euros, it remains a good entry level.
    Enthusiasm Nose 4/5 Mouth and finish 3/5 Whisky n ° 1776
    • Nose
On the nose, Talisker's smoke and pepper identity is palpable immediately, but quickly comes adorned with fresh and quite generous fruits (apricot, peach ...). With a little water, it offers a certain minerality and a little menthol
    • Taste
We find its marks in the mouth but with a youth perceptible by the alcoholic integration more than perfectible. The whole remains nevertheless very drinkable.
    • Finish
In the line of the mouth.

  18. wisekyofcourse scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

On the nose, smoke, ashes, fine peat and fruits on prunes!

In the mouth, sugar (caramel), fruits still cooked and peat more present

a little salt and cold ashes again!

In the final, it's quite short, and on the same aromas!

A dram always entertaining, with its more (fruity peat other than the Islay), but also its less with a short length!
    • Nose
prune, a little smoke, a lot of iodine, the marine side that comes out, dusty, a little vegetal and back sodden dried fruit.

  19. lincolnimp scored this whisky 74 points Connoisseur

This is a peat driven  for sure but not a patch on the old 10 year offerings (need to try this against a current 10 year)
    • Nose
Smells like creosote and toffee mixed together, quite a lot of peat .    Dark, rich fruit cake, malt loaf and hints of prune juice, more brine and peat than fruit.
    • Taste
Creamy mouthfeel, some bitterness and more peat mixed in with dark toffee. There is a little bitter plum and fig, sour apple but the peat takes centre stage along with slightly bitter orange marmalade (dark marmalde)
    • Finish
Not the longest, slightly peppery and sweet smokiness on the finish.
