Whisky Reviews for Balblair 2013 MoS

6 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 85.71 points

For me one of the weaker MoS bottlings, because too young. The highly active barrel and the young malt are difficult to arrange side by side
    • Nose
You immediately feel two things: the young malt, as well as a really active cask. Spitzer, sparkling alcohol pours into the nose, followed closely by concentrated notes of the sherry barrel. Orange and ginger, a certain citrus sharpness, with a sweetness of pickled raisins. Vanilla mixes with it, as well as a mild nut mix and fresh pepper
    • Taste
very young whiskys and high alcohol strength overwhelm me quickly, so does this one. The alcohol is pointed on the tongue and quite heated. The sherry influence is quite astringent and dry very quickly. Bright cherries and redcurrants give a sour impression, a nice malty note underneath
    • Finish
again some nuts, light chocolate with green pepper

    • Taste
Raspberry, blackberry, orange, blueberry, raisins, nutmeg, bitter chocolate, lots of oak, grapefruit, cherry bonbons, hazelnut, ginger and leather.
    • Finish
Long, nutmeg, hazelnut, ginger, raisins, chocolate, oak, orange, grapefruit, cherry, raspberry, blueberries and a little bit of leather.

Very adult for a five year old.
    • Nose
Deep sherry nose for a five year old. Loads of raisins and a subtle hint of malt.
    • Taste
Good mouthfilling with the sweetness of the raisins and a strong spiciness with cinnamon and pepper. The sherry tones are taking over near the end. High in alcohol but just a few drops of water makes it to weak and tasteless.
    • Finish
Short to medium finish full of sherry and drying out with more wood tones.

Successful young bottling, which was bottled at a good time. The barrel seems to have been extremely active.

Water helps the taste and intensifies the finish.

    Fabulous PLV.

After pouring raisins and intensely sherry notes are present, seasoning occurs in the background balsamic vinegar. It develops mirabelle and orange, then overripe, acidity, Brazil nut. The alcohol is not unpleasant, but after 5 years not optimally integrated.

Water brings white pepper into play, but it costs intensity.
    • Taste
      87 87
In the mouth, the alcohol is clear, tobacco, sweet raisins and plums fuse together. Powerful, rubust and dry.

With water more mirabelle and dryness.
    • Finish
      88 88
Rather short, as far as the tannins are concerned, the spiciness and sweet sherry notes (PX?) Are still genuinely long in the mouth.

With water significantly more oak and dryness.
