Whisky Reviews for Bruichladdich 2005 TWM

- That's a good example of how a distillate driven malt can be. About the score, perhaps 88 or 87. Anyway, briljant because of the age and also expensive while only looking at the age.
Bright and clean. Fresh yellow apple, also some unripe peach and fruit candies. Some Marshmellow, spongecake and porridge. A little earthy.
Oily mouthfeel, cake slightly buttery with some lemon that gives a fresh edge. White fruit like melon and pear with some brioche. Still fresh and clean, perhaps some seaweed?
Salty, malt and citrus.
- Really good stuff :-)
Rather sweet and only a vague hint of peat.
More typical Bruich, smokey, with some earthy tones, meaty and a bit malty
Long finish with wet branches and liquorice root.
I have tried this Laddie 2005 before, but either at a festival or a tasting, so I never published any notes. But it’s really very good, so I want to share them. Hence I scored a sample and jotted this down. The label is a reference to Sons of Anarchy and was (most likely) designed while while inebriated…
Surprisingly sweet nose on vanilla, sugared lemon peel and pineapple. I even have some buttercups. Touch of oak, salty edge, barely any peat. Classic Laddie, but with a sugar lining, which makes it very attractive. Sweet malt and a hint of – don’t laugh – baby puke (which is not an off-note!).
It is very spirit-driven, which in this case means it’s very clean, powerful, slightly oily, fruity and sweet with a lovely development of smoke, albeit delicate. White fruit and citrus stay in the lead.
The finish is very long and smoky, putting a smile on my face.
Very nice, salty sweet, but dangerously quaffable Laddie. Was around 115 EUR, but hard to find now.
