    In store sample..

A fantastically clean and interesting laddie. To be honest one of the best I’ve had - age and price be damned. I keep thinking about this whisky because it brings a very interesting discussion. Is any 12 year old whisky worth this price? $290cad (€191). Sure, it’s better than many $300+ whiskies I’ve had, but what about this commands the price? Surely if a whisky is this good age should not matter. We are not talking about a Port Ellen, or even Port Charlotte, just a plain old Laddie. A great one, but still... I digress...

A great bottle and frankly one I will remember for a long time.

Creamy, waxy, minerals, dried autumn leaves, lemon candy, pinecones, classic bruichladdich if there ever was one.

Waxy, great viscous mouthfeel, crushed rocks, minerals, lemon, mint
    • Finish

Soft minerals, lemon drops, oily, medium-short finish

Bruichladdich 12 yo 2005/2018 (52.5%, Archives, barrel, cask #1470, 139 bottles) Five stars
More fish! Colour: white wine. Nose: it is, as expected, extremely similar. Perhaps a notch grassier? And a tad more mentholy? With water: lovely. Mouth (neat): okay. A touch of gentian. With water: lovely, nothing to add. Perhaps a few mushroomy notes, perhaps not. Finish: long, fresh, earthy, etc. Comments: an epitome indeed. It’s the purity that just strikes you. Fresh, sweet, mineral, earthy tones. Citrus as well, vanilla. A bit grassy too.

Mineral, vanilla, sweet, peach and honey. Some citrus. Pretty full, a little tingling.

Now a bit fresher, sweet, honey and vanilla. Some nice sour notes underneath, citrus fruit. Some pepper, full taste, pretty long finish.

Relative unspectacular nose, but got that special Bruichladdich thing of "old feet smell", subtle though, also sweet vanilla... Pleasant mouth, takes water well and opens up nicely, a little bit of oak in the background... Not Bad, but not worth 120€ in my opinion.

re-tasted a few months later, have to admit it has something as it brings out distillate character very well, still struggle with the price, but hey too late, money is spent ;)
