Again a gem from the Miyagikyo distillery. A masterpiece of complexity and balance. To combine such intense power with flexibility, fantastic craftsmanship. You have to sit down for a while because this is a Single Malt of an enormous caliber. I'm impressed!
    • Nose
A challenging, enchanting, layered, rich and complex whisky with notes of vanilla, prunes, coffee, mocha, chocolate, honey, pole, leather, linseed oil, cereal, rye, beeswax, antique wax, ginger, macaroons, candied ginger, strawberry jam, hazelnut, green walnut, a hint of smoke, white chocolate, sandalwood, oak, a hint of sweet patchouli, incense, cardamom, cinnamon, hint of mustard, curry leaf, fresh laurel, angelica, allspice, varnish, floral notes, peach, a hint to camphor, red pumpkin, honey melon, plantan, Japanese good tea, hint to cloves and freshly baked bread. Donders, that's fascinating !! A deeply layered whisky that releases its aromas in one blow and then makes everything layered again layered. Has character characteristics of a very well ripened Single Grain that has been allowed to mature on top quality barrels for a few decades. A drop of water does him good and makes him even more pronounced. Beautiful and very complex.
    • Taste
A deep, complex, concentrated, busy, enchanting and intriguing whisky with notes of sweet honey, ginger syrup, chili pepper, tannin, strong oak, sandalwood, rosewood, greasy vanilla, vanilla oil, pepper, smoky tea (lapsang souchong), hedge leaves, grass, green apple, plums, marmalade, fennel, pear candies, brine, smoke, anise, various grains, dried apricot, nectarine, tutti frutti, iced coffee, bergamot, cinnamon, curry, cloves, fenugreek, beeswax, vegetable oil, green olives, liquorice , hint to iron, a hint of tar, green tea, a hint of mint, grilled sirloin steak, dates, esters and rich roasted nuts. This is a very powerful, busy and full whisky that has a nice balance between savory and sweet tones. A class apart!
    • Finish
A very long aftertaste with rich, complex and oily aromas of ginger, tannin, sandalwood, rosewood, patchouli, marmalade, some smoke and dark honey.

Color: dark amber. At first very restrained nose : the thick fat aromas from the 89er are missing unfortunately, but also slightly sticky-dusty (I do not like that), but behind it delicious strawberry jam with some hazelnut cream, white chocolate and light wood smock. With water spicy, fresher
Palate: starts immediately extremely sweet-fruity but also by the high percentages with distinct sharpness. The extreme fruitiness retains the upper hand. Followed by Woodsmoke, sweetened cold coffee
Conclusion: again a very sweet delicious Miyagikio. I give 89p
Point deduction also because of the slightly pappigen nose.
