Although the finish was done in a French Bordeaux wine cask, the distillery character of Ledaig is unmistakable. Smoke and peat, wonderfully paired with a creamy vanilla sweetness and fruity wine aromas. Aromatic in the nose, intense and very strong on the palate. Nevertheless, this pleasantly complex and not too young Ledaig is perfect to be enjoyed neat. Something for the cold evenings in front of a logfire.
    • Nose
Fruity on the nose with delicate red wine aroma, beautifully mixed with peat smoke and a touch of ash. Notes of creamy vanilla and caramel arrive nicely wrapped in sweet smoke, wine grapes and an appealing mix of spices - coriander, juniper and white pepper. A hint of maritime  notes with a touch of tobacco leaves in the background.
    • Taste
Bold and intense on the palate with peat smoke, vanilla sweetness, malty notes and honey. This is accompanied by a warming spiciness of black pepper, ginger and nutmeg. Lingering red grapes mixed with a hint of fresh lemon and dry notes of oak and allspice towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish is long, pleasantly warming and sweet with honey, grapes and fudge. Again slightly smoky with a hint of salt and a whiff of bitter dry oak on the tail.

With water: There's almost no change on the nose when a splash of water is added. The delicate sweetness and smokiness both remain stable. On the palate, however, the sweet and fruity notes are almost tamed while spicy flavours - pepper, allspice and cloves - take over along with earthy peat. The finish is still long, warm and creamy with malty notes, dry oak and a hint of red grapes.

Somehow supple, creamy sweet and vinous, then strong smoky, slightly salty and with a sea breeze and finally the well-known and expected Kuhstallgeruch ... For me personally a nice Ledaig with an extraordinary finish! PLV: 8/10 (89 / 90P.)
    • Nose
      Salt / coast, vinous aromas paired with a rich portion of smoke, well-known smell of farmhouse tobacco, greasy leather, oriental spices (saffron, curry, cinnamon, coriander), more sweet smoke with wine notes, dried grapes, creamy / creamy;
    • Taste
Creamy sweet, vinous and smoke-rich, bitter notes from the oak, then marked youthful ginger and pepper, salt notes, wet stones, red fruit, greasy leather, again sweet and vinous; astringent / dry!
    • Finish
Bitter (oak), salt and wet stones (tingling), smoke full, cowshed / manure; less wine notes than in the nose and on the palate!

To the aroma no questions asked, multifaceted, cute, branded Ledaig. The taste lacks softness, more "resonant" than one would like after the aroma. But more claims to the aftertaste, sharp and bitter, which is a bit dissonant.
    • Nose
      89 89
Juicy fruit, slightly sour grains, peat, BBQ, mineral, dust, farm notes, vegetable stew, eucalyptus chill, roasted chestnuts, a thin slice of roasted bacon, cold tea hyacinth, vanilla, milk iris, dried fruits.
    • Taste
      88 88
Apricot, peat, honey, explosive fruit, soot, rubber, farm.
    • Finish
      87 87
Peat, with bitterness, with pepper, soot, rubber, long.

powerful and quite interesting Ledaig, a bit unusual and dirty nose, and at the same time a clean, straightforward taste, pronounced wine aftertaste, the influence of the barrel is very significant, I think that the first pouring
    • Nose
Sweet mash and dung, powerful and dirty, caramel and freshly cut hay, dying bonfire coals
    • Taste
spicy peppery, but rather concise, wine notes and citruses
    • Finish
salt, spices, lemon juice and some tobacco

massive bad taste in it, sulfurous and too young. The finish is virtually not out, sorry for a lot more it is not enough for me

So the color does not reveal that he had a finish in the Bordeaux barrel. It actually looks like a whisky from the bourbon barrel. I'll leave that for a few minutes too. The nose is rather dry. Implied fruits and spices. The smoke is about as strong as the Sherry Signatory (WID: 96289), but it seems, due to its weaker barrel influence, different or purer. In the mouth he is not as pure drinkable as the sherry signatory or acts more alcoholic. He is much better with water. Pretty creamy. Then come wine aromas and it gets dry. But he does not pick me up so completely. And I do not really know why.
He is not bad. But he can not compete with the 18er OA and the Sherry Signatory.
