Tonight I was experimenting a little by blending some different styles. Well...Mix some Laphroaig Quarter Cask through your dram with F.R. Small Batch Bourbon and you will be quite suprised. (85% bourbon - 15% Laphroaig ratio, give or take some)
    • Nose
What arises is a rather unusual Bourbon nose with a more full, more demanding nose. There is still a lot of sweetness but it is being accompanied now by a warm, smokey note. In the right ratio it is complimenting eachother very well. Vanilla, cinnamon, macaroons, smoldering wood and a very subtle hint of some peat smoke. It does make it better!
    • Taste
Fresh, light arrival. Clear vanilla notes, fresh oak, baked nuts, and again that subtle but not dominating smoldering wood note. It reminds me of a campfire on a late summer night.
    • Finish
Tropical fruits and fresh wood which fade away quite quickly in a little more clear peat smoke but it all stays very gentle and pleasant. It is the finish in which the peat is most active, so it seems. But the fun part is: the Bourbon hints keep pushing back, then fade away again to come back again right after, fade away again and so on. It’s almost some kind of gentle battle between the two.

Fun experiment. I would recommend you to try it!

Not a fan of the QC version, the older label was way better.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask is a single malt whisky from the remote island of Islay. The extra influence of the oak first gives a softer and sweeter character of the whisky. Taste of peat, iodine and seaweed.
