Whisky Reviews for Caol Ila 2006 DD

- Not only is it good and rather complex for its age, but it's also sligthly different from the typical young Caol Ila profile (although still unmistakable), with less citrusy freshness and more sweet seafood, sometimes hinting at young Laga.
Classical green olives to start with, and some wet newspapers. Slightly meaty, which is less Caol Ila in my experience. Evolves in complexity with lemon juice, petrol, and this tertiary aroma of crepe paper. A sweetness as well, that would rather hint at Lagavulin. Some kind of asian oil for wok or something, it's more complex than I expected.
Conventional arrival wit a nice crescendo on these sweet oils, seafood touches, quinces, ashes ... Nice alcohol integration. Quite simple, but definitely does the job.
Rounder and more buttery than I'm acustomed with young CI ; it's somehow less fresh, if you want. Citrus zest, seaweed.
