The weather forecast is minus 5 degrees for tonight. Excellent timing for an Islay dram.

After adding more than a few drops of water, an explosion of flavors. Campfire some, maritime notes, burned bacon. But in addition fresh notes as well.

The initial flavors are too much for me. This can handle quite some water to get tamed. Very strong and warm arrival. Peat, bacon, sweetness and surprising fresh minty flavors.

Long finish. Peat, bacon and tobacco. Minty notes remain longest. Great finish!

Soft smoke on the nose (distant campfires, scented candles), orange fudge and hints of mango and vanilla. The mouthfeel is thin and not sticky. The body is marked by sultanas, burnt heather and tobacco. In the finish the smoke is more intense than expected - campfire and sultanas.

With water, a thin head of foam appears, which quickly turns into a short mottling. The nose gains in mango and honeycomb - I wonder how that would taste with Maltesers? The body gains in mango, orange fudge and more sultanas - but that big, dry campfire smoke is still the dominant flavor. (And not in a bad way!) The finish is more smoky, with mango joining the sultanas.

What an unexpected dram. A strange combination of flavors but absolutely brilliant. Highly recommended. A whisky for every occasion, provided you like to share it with friends...

For me one of the best SMWS Bowmores of recent times. In the nose very (!!) restrained he then unfolds on the palate a true fireworks of typical Islay flavors. Much warm smoke, savory-salty and roasted herbs to caramelized salt liquorice. Endless finish! Great malt! No wonder it was sold out so quickly ...

    CASK No. 3.306
    Peated
    Summer on Islay
Price  £91.20 A well-rounded nose of incense smoke and heather moor-burn softened by vanilla, tutti-frutti and orange fondant creams – with almost imperceptible hints of spearmint, leather and tobacco. The palate begins with a whack of intense muscovado and Danish pastry sweetness, before finding earthy notes of staves, roast parsnips, burnt heather and a lick of salt. The reduced nose gets sea water and ash (tide-flooded beach bonfire), honeycomb candy, heather honey and ice-cream – quite an experience! The palate becomes tasty and rewarding – Mon Cheri chocolates, lebkuchen, mango coulis and euthymol tooth powder. Transferred to a toasted hogshead after 17 years in ex-bourbon wood.
