Canadian market 43%, new livery. Haven’t had this bottle in a few years and quite enjoyed it in the past (85 pts) so time for a revisit.
Bottle claims - heather honey, rich fruit cake, aromatic peat.

My findings are that this seems less sherried than in the past. There is some peatiness for sure, but the whole deal is quite course compared to the past in my mind. The honey heather characteristic is still there, but it is kind of hiding behind those rough peat elements. You would definitely guess that this was a higher abv if you tasted it blind. Definitely not as harmonious as previous bottlings, so down a few points for me.

Edit: Revisit with a new bottle two years later. Enjoying this a little more this time. Honey and sherry and light peat. Nice. Toss up between this one and the 10yo as to which one I enjoy more.

Jack of all trades, master of none except for winning the award for the worst marketing department in whisky ⁣

Adjective to describe this whisky: Subdued⁣

Lots going on but nothing really stands out to me and it definitely lacks harmony overall. It’s a bit rough actually. Seems like a decent beginner malt and they priced it accordingly. ⁣

    Score: 82/100 or 5/10
    • Nose
Citrus fruits, honey, vanilla, bread slathered in orange marmalade, green apples, grassiness, maybe some faint smoke⁣
    • Taste
Watery arrival. Honey sweetness, vanilla, toasted nuts, very mild smoke, grassy notes, wood spice, bitter lemon pith⁣
    • Finish
Medium-short length. Ginger spice, mild bitterness with fading honey sweetness⁣
