For me 1a malt. Very tasty, soft and round. But also somehow dangerously easy to drink because he has lost some of his strength through age.
    • Nose
      92 92
great start in the nose, soft and solid rise fruity sweet aromas of red apples, strawberries, slightly sour currant. In addition, sweet, dark forest honey, slightly earthy with great wood notes, fresh sawdust with furniture polish, leather. Light sherry notes with some dried fruit form a nice contrast, orange zest and a little plum must. When the aromas fade slightly, a fine mint freshness emerges. In the background again a typical Aultmore herbal note that seems to be somewhat overlaid with the sherry.
Great harmonic and well balanced clean nose.

Here too, a fine, soft beginning, somehow light and round, nothing seems to bother me, outstandingly balanced for me, fine but nevertheless heavy, set sherry influences of the oranges, dried fruit after raisins, dried plums, figs. Add to that the fresh apple-strawberry fruit and the slightly sour feet of the currant. Sweet honey notes with spicy but not spicy oak notes, you can leave it in the mouth for a long time. a light nut aroma mixes with it. Could have a little more strength.
    • Finish
      90 90
Long finish, the spicy, heavy sherry notes transform into a nice sweet chocolate note with nuts and almonds, in the end a subtle red wine feeling remains in the mouth.

Pleasant, matured Aultmore, not an exaggerated sherry.

Sherry, herbals, spicy oak, earth, strawberry, red apple and lacquered wood.
    • Taste
Tannic oak, sherry, waxy apples, milk caramel and citruses.
    • Finish
      Long, oaky, spicy, fruity.

[July, 2018]  To finalise my little time-warp Cadenhead tasting tonight I have this recent edition of a sherry matured Aultmore, another distillery that almost nobody has on his/her radar screen when it comes to single malt whisky.  An excellent reason to try it, especially when the prices of better known malts go through the roof these days…

...and what a nice surprise at the end of tonight's tasting session:  This is one of the best modern-style sherry whiskies I had for a while and certainly the best Aultmore I had so far.  Worth a consideration to buy if you are into modern sherried whiskies but beware:  I doubt this is a good investment opportunity, this dram is for drinkers only (unless a miracle occurs and all of a sudden Aultmore becomes famous)...

The colour is deep copper and the texture shows a sticky ring that builds fat tears with very slow legs over time (an excellent oiliness for a modern dram, for sure). The nose offers this typical modern-style sherry profile that is driven by sour-sweet wine aromas and herbs, spices with rather shy fruits. Nonetheless, this is excellent and flawless, not a single sulphur atom in there!

The taste is flawless modern sherry again with different layers and a great chewability, I like that! I do not find any off-note in there, this is a perfect modern sherry cask (I never thought such a cask find its way to an unknown distillery like Aultmore, but the will of the whisky gods are unpredictable). One of the best modern-style sherry releases I tasted for months (if not years).
    • Finish
      90 90
The mouthfeel of this dram is pretty good, too. Warming and okay-ish coating with no distracting moments except from a minor bitter-astringent tannins moment (that is not annoying at all). The finish is long but it adds no new impressions, unfortunately. Fortunately, there are no distracting moments either so this is just a fine extension of the delicious taste - not more but not less either. Some water turns the dram smoother and more approachable without adding significant new impressions, more water just flattens both the nose and taste. I like the neat dram best.
