Good, but not stellar, as these vintages / SV bottlings can be. Wins me over in the mouth, but the nose - and the finish especially - leave something to be desired.
    • Nose
      87 87
Yeasty, sweet-sour, with pickled cucumber, white pepper, engine oil, sweet tea, and white peach.
    • Taste
      89 89
Strong, substantial attack. The cask comes first, with juicy refill sherry notes and typical US oak flavors: sun-dried hay, oak shavings, caramel, and custard. Then it's the BN distillate's turn: wet wool, graphite, greasy workshop tools, peach melba, and a whiff of peat. Once this opulence subsides, things become more tart and austere at the end (see below).
    • Finish
      83 83
First, some not-too-tired but slightly tannic wood (straw; pencil shavings). Then crushed aspirin tablets, chalk, and cold ashes. After a few minutes, all that's left is some slightly scruffy, musty / mouldy wood. This is where it really loses some points.

nose: first sherry and spices like cinamon and nutmeg, after sitting for some time i get more sweet tones like vanilla and honey. also some red fruit like raisins and some peppers
Pallet: very rich in flavors but still Very soft, sweet lots of wood and peppers.
Finish: nutmeg, drying some wood and pepper.
a complex whisky and it needs some time to open up

Mineral and subtle smoky nose, with sherry and biscuits. Palate chocolate malt, summer berry cake, molasses and peanut brittle. Finish cigar box, malt bread and blackberries. Smoke rising again.

I actually liked the whisky very much in the nose and in the taste, only the finish spoils the experience a bit. Somehow it even became slightly mineral.

  12. Noface83 scored this whisky 89 points Specialist

creamy nutty sherry, brandy aromas, lychee, dark fruit notes (including plum), blueberry muffin, cereals, a hint of vanilla and floral sweetness, subtly old wood

strong but creamy, berries, honey on caramel biscuits, dark chocolate and dried herbs and spicy wood, the finish is medium-long and lingers on the herbs and the chocolate oak note.

Great malt needs some water to get everything out and to reach its full creaminess.

  13. Cartman did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

Nose: sweetish, ripe plums, cinnamon, almond paste, baked apple, through the alcohol a certain coolness like a breeze over a late summer cornfield. Heidehonig, a sub-variety of lavender and peonies. It looks ripe, but very lively, reminiscent of late summer luxuriance. Cedarwood is added with a few drops of water.
Taste: Dark chocolate, nutmeg and cinnamon, ginger sharpness, sage, spruce sprouts, plum jam, herbaceous-spicy, dried apricots, peppery, wood. Amarena cherries, but without the sugariness.
Finish: Fairly long, spicy and ripe, with waxy notes and tonka bean. The dark chocolate combines with caramel notes
