Here again shows that Talisker age with the best of the otherwise strong coastal malts, fine notes of salt to spices and tropics, like well.
    • Nose
Grapefruit peel, licorice, fennel, coconut, vanilla, herbal honey, cardamom, green tea, lavender, fresh tobacco, toffee and butter biscuits, fine sea flavor, as if you were standing on the shore and inhaling gently, vanilla
    • Taste
See nose, licorice, coconut, grapefruit en masse, melon, apple peel, salt water (here more clearly than in the nose), hint of ash, hint of hay also, toffee and butter biscuits, green tea and lavender, herbal honey, creamy full
    • Finish
Medium to long, salt, dry grasses, herbal honey and grapefruit peel, some ashes and coconut

I wish those cask strength 25y weren't all so damn good. Where am I supposed to get another bottle? A complexity monster with fantastic depth!

    • Nose
      92 92
A combination of light smoke and malt notes, old-style bourbon ageing and a painter's studio. Plus mashed strawberries. When the first impression fades away, intensely fragrant blossoms of herbs and spicy tea appear. At the same time, the fruit tends towards pineapple and coconut. Both drowned in honey. It changes a bit with every smell and the combinations are rolled again and again.
    • Taste
      90 90
Peppery and spicy, it fills the mouth. Then comes grapefruit, coconut, peat smoke and a big gulp of salt water. Tobacco and honey. Is there such a thing as honey tobacco? (Spoiler: Yes, says the search engine ;-))
    • Finish
      91 91
Salty and fruity, the whole mouth slowly becomes dry. Someone here in the base writes about Pomelo. I can't understand that tastewise, but the mouthfeel is comparable. Bitter notes from citrus peel are also there and dry honey biscuits. The aftertaste of a rather mild cigar. Thyme and coconut.

It definitely tastes good, but the alcohol splattered..

  5. DocF scored this whisky 93 points Expert Senior

Close to the 2008, more warm smoke, less fresh tropical fruits than the earlier vintages, bergamot, star fruit, wet pebbles, some horn, tree sap ... Probably all splitting hairs. Class fabric.

Head to Head with Talisker 30 20013 45.8%
    • Nose
      90 90
Pretty invasive, definitely more peaty than the 30, with a different kind of fruitiness like apples, oranges and pineapples, and more salty and coastal as well. Vanilla, with some creamy and oily scent. More punchy compared to the 30 with the white pepper and peat smoke, also more earthy and grassy. Equally complex.
    • Taste
      90 90
Rich and full of concentrated flavors, lots of bitter oranges, salty and peppery. Some creamy and nutty notes you'll get from butter cookies with nuts. Getting saltier towards the end, and kind of bitter sweet as well.
    • Finish
      89 89
Long and smoky, still full of bitter oranges, faint saltiness. Butter cookies and salted almond. Very enjoyable.

    Smoky nose, black pepper, iodine.
The mouth is well peppery and well smoked.
Very long finish in the same spirit.
The typical markers of Talisker are present and beautifully highlighted in this venerable expression.

  15. ConvalRen scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

on the nose, citrus, apricot, a little mirabelle plum, peat salted, feeling of stone wet by the tide, a little patissier
mouth on camphor, salt, peppery spices, dirty, dusty and soaked wood, pungent smoke, then lemon custard, a little rancid butter, vanilla scorched, smoked apricot and a return vanilla and pepper
The finish is long here, on wet herbs, pepper, lemon, yellow fruit stewed and dry peat.

Wonderful mature, multi-layered and powerful Talisker. Great balanced and very interesting. A whisky for special moments. Does not need water. Significantly better than the younger 25s with 45.8%.
    • Nose
      94 94
clearly maritime note; salty; Seaweed; behind it, great aromatic sweetness (citrus flavors); delicate smoky note (slightly greasy); similarly younger 25er with 45.8%, but more complex and noticeably more bidding
    • Taste

strong start; oily; spicy; intense sweet; Citrus flavors; pleasant Talisker-typical Pfeffrigkeit appears increasingly powerful; salty maritime; delicate smoky note (campfire)
    • Finish

Nose: sea water, seaweed, creamy, smoked ... light smoke.
Taste: dense, matchless !!! salt, blood, rusty metal, wax ...
Finish: endless! Viscous, tar and salty.

  22. Gusto scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

Reminiscent of the Talisker 20yo 1981/2002, but is much more restrained, perhaps a bit restrained. Need some water. Let him pass on his tongue, 25 seconds, as old as he is, then he shows himself fully and fully.

  23. Stanzeflasche scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

The nose is less iodized, less marine, on the other hand very fruity. Apricot is obviously essential, a little heather. With the addition of water, vanilla and white fruits come out. A little spicy Mirabelle, knob of butter, applesauce, elderberry. Just a drop of peat, no ash or smoke. Very greedy nonetheless. After half an hour, the pear takes precedence over the rest. This one is very sweet, it is slightly woody, earthy.
The mouth is very light, we do not smell at all alcohol, a little plum, on the other hand the heather, the pepper are overwhelming, the finish is very woody, very long, what am I saying interminable.

I'm oddly reminded of some Port Ellen releases. The nose is similarly elegant and detailed. This is rather more on sweet tar and less on marine notes, disregarding salt which is plentiful, than its cousins from Islay, though. I like it, but it doesn't seem to handle water very well, being best neat.

The earlier OB bottlings 20 and 25 years in
Barrel strength from the ExBourbon barrel is something
Special. Lots of sea aroma, salt, slightly peppery, tender
smoky, full of vanilla, wonderfully sweet and creamy, soft
Mouthfeel. Reassuring. Nothing dominates. All flavors
nicely integrated. Medium-long finish. Unfortunately a lot
got expensive and the new bottlings are not
more in barrel strength. Nice to have another bottle
    has in reserve.
    • Nose

Hello! We are the peppered wavelets, we are back! We find ourselves in a development close to the previous batch but more precise and more restrained. A kind of remastered version in short. The endless and prolonged length to infinity (or almost) is back too. We are facing a whisky a little more "rough" but under control. The chills felt during the tastings of the excellent 2004 and 2006 batches are also present! Excellent last un-reduced version. (and a big thank you to Bishlouk for this trip through these wonderful Talisker 25)

  30. Bishlouk scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

Nose: Slight malt smoke, sweet spices. It must be allowed time to open, because then it grows. Fruity dust, spices, dried apricot. Less direct than the previous ones. Palate: Sweet malt curd, pepper, candied yellow fruit. Here too, he tries to be wise, to finally become a dirty kid (but so adorable). Final: Peppered kick, but settles (really, this time) then. Come on, sleepy kid, now. Verdict: Dirty kid of shit! But I love you anyway :-) 91/100 . (Note made in the context of a face to face of all Talisker 25y in barrel.)

A bit monolithic for me, the pepper overpowering the rest but no bad at all.
    • Nose

    • Taste
      Lots of pepper. Drying. Lemon.

The seventh release of 25-year-old Talisker comprises whiskies matured in a
mixture of European oak casks and refill American oak casks. The nose offers
vibrant fruit, damp tweed, smoke, oak and ginger. Elastoplast and subtle vanilla
with the addition of water. The palate is notably bold, with powerful chili and
black pepper hits, followed by peat and brine. The finish is long and peppery

    Talisker 25yo (54,8%, OB 2009, 5862 btl.)

Nose: very maritime start (seaweed, brine) with some lazy peat and smoke. After a while citrus grows stronger (lemon but oranges as well). Some trademark pepper. Quite some oak and cigar boxes. Linseed oil. Compared to the 30yo, punchier and slightly more grassy but still relatively shy. Mouth: a slap in your face. Very spicy with the pepper being the most important. More sweet peat now. Some liquorice towards the finish. Nice lemon-salt combo. Very oily and powerful. Medium finish. Slightly bitter / organic onset, then more salty. Coastal notes and more wood in the end.

Very intense and very Talisker although I don’t see a real premium over the 20 years old version. If money is not an issue, have a look at the 30 years old. Around € 170.

    Score: 88/100

(Tasted in the context of a 3 Talisker 25y face to face)
    • Nose
Smoke, pepper, some citrus freshness. Sea spray. Green apple. Very good nose.
    • Taste
Frank and powerful attack. Citric astringency. Pepper and smoke.

much more complex in the nose than in the mouth
Strong in the mouth with few distinct notes and a Talisker Chilli Catch
only at the finish are the typical subtle Talisker notes added
    mmh, I like them indeed
    • Nose
salty smoke, hay, caramel and wild herbs, cough syrup, in autumn pears with lump, yes this association is: yeast dough, pears and some salty smoked bacon,
    • Taste
Slightly alcoholic on arrival, then talc sharpness, which becomes sharper towards the back, wood notes and dark chocolate, slightly nutmeg, slightly bitter
a very powerful mouth with few strong notes,
    • Finish
      very long,

A classic talisker: spice / smoke / coastal style
    • Nose
Nose: first nose a little alcoholic but gives way very quickly to lemony notes, herbaceous ... then comes the coastal side, a light smoke and oysters, rather classic aromas at Talisker ... pinch of ginger, a nice woody ... The addition of water brings the fruits (peach, apple) it becomes more complex and gets closer to the 30yo in fact ...
    • Taste
Palate: Very spicy (pepper) and lemony with water
    • Finish
Final: Powerful but moderately long, on the ash, the smoke, lots of pepper ... becomes really more maritime then ... very talisker with this beautiful balance pepper / smoke ... touch of lemon and salt ... back ginger.
