This is definitely a very nice dram. Despite its young age, it’s a very interesting whisky. The flavours keep on changing and it can easily stand water. This is an eight year old with character.
    • Nose
Peat, ash and minerals at first. Then fresh lemon appears. Some spicy notes in the background. With water it becomes more fruity and then especially white fruit like pears.
    • Taste
This is quite fruity. Bananas and coconut, a pinch of vanilla. Then some sweet tones, caramel and honey. A peach. And a little bit of bitterness of grapefruit, but a pleasant bitterness. If you add water the bitterness dissapears and the fruit takes over and then mainly white fruit. All very nice!
    • Finish
The finish is mid-long to long. Peppery at first, chili peppers. Then minerals and a bit salty. With water the chili peppers are gone and the fruit is back again. Much softer with water.

    Colour: Gold
Nose: neat: lemon, grass, bacon (yes, really), slight sweetness and very faint smoke notes. Easy to nose even at this strength. with water: a lot more sweet, smoke more evident, still very grassy with some earth notes as well. Briliant transformation that makes this a great nose!
Taste: neat: very salty, sweeter than on the nose, ginger, with citrus notes also very evident. Very drinkable neat. with water: profile doesn't change as much in the mouth as it does in the nose. Slight more grassy/earthiness.
Finish: neat: medium, oily, slight peatiness subsiding with ginger taste and tingle. oddly enough, with water the finish is slightly more mouth drying, but still with ginger and slight peatiness subsiding the most.
Comments: Despite only being 8 years old, so, relatively young, I really enjoy this whisky. I always find the grassiness and earthiness to be Springbank "trademarks" and this is another whisky that verifies that. Very good one!
    MY SCORE: Highly Recommended

Springbank peat, salted peanuts, limes and lemons, orange peel, wood furniture paint, empty room smell. Lovely. Kind of organic and green, with the earthy smokiness. More Springbank-ness appear after the first sip, and more pebbles and stones.
    • Taste
      89 89
Kind of oily, light smokiness. A lot of citrus fruits - lemons, grapes, mandarin oranges the most prominent. Slightly sweet from the candy notes, and Springbank saltiness.
    • Finish
      88 88
Orange peel bitterness, salty, biscuity, limestone, with a long finish.

    Profile and character purely Springbank.
Extremely balanced and compact for an 08 year old.

  7. Calmar scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Classic Springbank with an admixture of rubber and smoke / peat, very wooden, despite the young age; the combination turned out to be quite solid, looks older than its years, the fortress is well inscribed, but somehow the rubber does not match the springback base, for me at least.
    • Nose
Open, mineral notes, lemon zest, heated rubber, a little haze, heated plastic, solvent, lemonade, grain, sanded dry boards, floral motifs, a little dried fruit.
    • Taste
Sweet, dense, rubber - gas mask, bicycle camera; a wave of red pepper, lemonade, mineral water, creamy colors, salt, a little peat, oak.
    • Finish
Sweet-astringent, oak, lemon, faint notes of smoke and rubber, ginger, orange peel, grassy bitterness, salt, again oak in large quantities.
