A Bowmore from Independent Bottler, 27 years in ExBourboncask, in cask strength. Very nice mature Bowmore with pleasant wood notes, a hint of smoke, tidy citrus notes, salt, smoked ham. There are 93 points from me.
Varnish, very ripe fruits, bananas, pears, dried apricots and figs, very nice old leather, brine, some toffee and honey. Very vague peat smoke. Pinecones. Some perfumed bubblegum shows up later, and after tasting a distint flavour of yoghurt dominates. That was a bit of a surprise.
Seriously good stuff. Just the right amount of alcohol, great balance. Starts out spicy, peppery, but with just the right amount of muscovado sugar, then some oak starts to warm up, and ultimately peat smoke joins the party. Everything in perfect contribution to a fantastic balance. Still lots of spices on the second chew, a bit more oak, then old leather, cigar box, tobacco leaves, great dose of peat. A bit of brine joining late. Really amazing balance all the way through.
Very warm, peppery, spicy, muscovado sugar still there, perfect oak and peat balance. Goes on forever with no distortions.
