A lot happens with this malt. Really exciting. Exciting development from wine-sweet / fruity-sweet to sour-maritime to chewing gum-sweet / licorice-spicy. Even if that sounds adventurous now. And it's really full-bodied and deep.
    • Nose
First of all overripe light fruit, windfalls. Then he becomes leathery-sweaty-fine. Oily / buttery / rancid. Earthy. Fleshy. Carbon notes? Nice aromatic depth, diverse fruit, which over time expands to include blackberries and blueberries. It also has something sour and fresh, paired with malty-spicy aromas.
    • Taste
First of all, vinous and sweet. Has a lot of bite. Maritime notes and a sour impression. But that works because it is also very full-bodied.
    • Finish
Chocolatey. Creamy, nicely covers the entire mouth. Peppery warmth. Toasted notes. Coffee. Vinous, tannins. Tart fruit. From the back, however, a Hubba Bubba impression that I find somehow strange. This impression is paired with a lot of barrel flavor, which in the end goes towards licorice.

give 90 points for the Tobermory 15 Marsala finish. A very successful single malt whisky from the Tobermory distillery. The maturation in the Marsala-Casks goes perfectly with the Tobermory whisky!

    Coastal

In 2017 Tobermory released this official 15 years old on the market. It was bottled at cask strength and finished on Marsala wine casks. Marsala is a fortified wine produced on the Italian island of Sicily. This wine never gets an age statement because it is aged via the solera-system, as is also custom in the sherry industry. Marsala is also a classic ingredient in Tiramisu, but let’s stick to the whisky for now.

Tobermory is unmistakable on the nose with it’s light coastal character and typical hessian sacks. But that is decorated with strawberries, candied sugar, black grapes and marzipan. Cloves and vanilla are there too. Molded wood but without disturbing. Becomes sweeter as it get to breathe. I am surprised in a good way.

It starts very sweet and syrupy, but soon a good helping of salt is added, making this quite coastal indeed. The Marsala tries to counter that by adding some dried fruit and dark honey. But it’s very sharp, because of the high ABV. If you’re not careful, you might cut yourself! Tobacco, green herbs and liquorice try to get a piece of the action, but to no avail.

The finish is wonderfully long, warm with lots of woodsmoke and a true battle between sweet and salty.

In all honesty, I had expected this to be sweeter, but at the end of the day, this is simply an outstanding Tobermory. Impressive!

    Nose: wine, sweet notes, vanilla

Taste: Creamy from the very beginning with the addition of dryness. One slightly cropped in the background. Also some fruit and toffee. The taste is quite deep and strong.

Rating: 88 100 Pretty long, slightly dry. Good price ratio of the bottle to its taste. At daily dram I think it will be a good whisky.

well done. ~ 105 € a no-brainer. adding water and time if you like the sweet stuff.
    • Nose
without any doubt a tobermory - costal and somehow dirty, dark grapes, sweet strawberry punch, vanilla.
    • Taste
mouth coating, super sweet, treacle toffee, dried fruit mix, subtle brininess, oak - powerfull but not sharp.
    • Finish
warm & sweet oak, pleasent pepper, not bitter,  strawberry flavour,  costal brininess again. stays long on the tongue.
