At first he looked closed and quite rough to me. With enough time in the glass, however, it gained noticeably in depth and soon appeared a bit more sedate. I imagine that I was able to observe a very lively interplay between the caramel-vanilla notes of the American white oak from the basic ripening and the astringent angularity of the European oak from the Rioja finish. A multi-faceted, intense whisky. It demands time and attention, but then opens up willingly. Maybe a little bit relaxed.

Quite brisk, the alcohol is first in the foreground for me. At first I find one thing above all else: dry, crumbly lemon flour, which I have often had in connection with aging in a wine barrel and which I actually associate with youth. I'll leave him alone for 15 minutes. Lo and behold, now I find an access: fine vanilla. Fruit salad. Brittle and crumbly cream caramel candies. Tart and berry notes. Only very gentle notes of wood - the inside of a damp, cool barrel. Morning dew on the vines in the summery vineyard. It is getting fruity, very tasty! A little leather creates a deeper impression.

Here too a somewhat brutal demeanor. First of all a lot of acidity, I also find it quite tannic. Creaky oak. After a long swirl in the mouth it becomes oily and velvety - yes, I can imagine a full-bodied, dry red wine.

I really like the mouthfeel here. It lines the entire oral cavity meltingly. The dry acidity is now balanced by a fine, aromatic sweetness. Dark chocolate and again a potpourri of various fruits. I also find a few echoes of dried tobacco leaves. The tannins become noticeable at the very end with a noticeably furry feeling on the tongue.

a solid malt, but not really for me
    he is missing something
    • Nose
starts closed, wine muff, sour notes, leather comes (so Gerbestoff-Tanine), light tobacco, light oak, light dark caramel, no longer young malt
with water: sweeter, vanilla, cereals, leaves from the autumn forest
with 1920s: hot, wine, fresh grassy
      + Water: bast
    • Taste
oily, soft, round on the palate, pleasant
a sour-tart wood note, spicy, dark not tart berries, oak becomes stronger
with water: soft, tart, a strange note that I would classify as plastic)
    • Finish
      medium long
tart, slightly spicy, sour, astringent on the gums
with water: older oak, nuttiness comes

Full-bodied, fruity, long-lasting. A very pleasant example of Rioja-based whiskys.

Long-lasting and deep notes of fruit and cereals in perfect harmony with the oak barrel.
    • Taste
      86 86
Fruity, slightly sweet, oak comes back slightly. Cereal notes remain subtly in the background.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long and pleasant finish with powerful oak.
