this dram is just a wonderful expression of a 22y speysider. not much spice but loads of candied fruits. dont need any water.

Great nose in the old speyside style. Sweet flowers in the sultry heat in the meadow in a bite with a sweet pear. Fresh cucumber and melon. A little breathing goes into the spices and fumigation of the barrel. Very persistent and stable nose. Time does not kill him. And with a slight aeration, the primary notes return.
Very drinkable and balanced with alcohol taste. Sweet fruity lexir spreading in the mouth with honey, chalk and fruit flavors.
The finish is a little oak and waxy. Average duration.

A sample from the Bourbon Hogshead with barrel number 3212. Distilled on December 2nd, 1995, bottled on October 9th, 2017.
    • Nose
Full aroma with intense citrus notes such as oranges and mandarins, a little mint and lots of sweet honey. Very elegant and pleasant.
    • Taste
Oily and, despite the barrel strength, mild on the tongue, mouth-filling taste with mandarins and ripe oak spice.
    • Finish
Spicy and dry, sugary syrup and slightly bitter orange peel.

Whiskyfun: Colour: white wine. Nose: very similar, just rather chalkier than the 2006. Does chalk come with age? Having said that there are whiffs of bandages, which, indeed… Also a touch of tangerine. With water: damp chalk and mushrooms, with touches of camphor and lemon peel. You cannot beat this profile. Mouth (neat): I think people tend to forget that Glen Elgin has a stellar distillate. This is just further proof, with tangerines and grapefruits, chalk, touches of melon, resins and putties. With water: a little sweetness, a little jamminess. A drop of sugarcane syrup. Impeccable. Finish: medium, pretty sublime actually. Ticks all the boxes, the chalky one, the waxy one, all the fruity ones… Comments: this senior really impressed me, what an immaculate spirit.
