Nose: A pleasant, somewhat milder nose than the IO II. Very sweet aromas penetrate the nose, fruit compote, rum-raisins, all nicely sugared in a pleasant, warm smoky note. In the Snifter the alcohol does not spit anything and everything seems to be wonderfully integrated.
Palate: One notices that one should evaluate this malt in any case only in comparison to the IO II. Far too different are the characters of the two. The sweetness continues in the mouth and one is of course influenced by the knowledge that the spirit has matured in the 1st fill rum barrel. Continuation of the rumrosine flavors, great harmonizing smoke, much more on the campfire side. Wonderfully silky despite the increased alcohol rate.
Finish: I would also say medium, less dry outgoing. And here, too, no trace of bitterness or other notes that do not belong there. Neat sweetness remains paired with the smoke. A harmonious thing!
Rating: I was a little biased, as I'm not necessarily a big fan of Rumfassreifungen. But this one has completely convinced me. Also here a great barrel selection, an exciting experiment. Would I have tasted the distillery? No, I do not think so, even if the character, if you think of the distillery, can interpret well. But the Rumfassreifung has given the spirit a special kick. 89/100
