  1. Cask1988 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

JACKPOT! Marvelous whisky by Ledaig! I do like sherry, but I don’t like Amontillado sherry to drink as it is. Finish wise (in maturation) it added a beautiful extra dimension and a great layer.
    • Nose
Give it some time and water. It needs to open up. A delicate smokey nose. Salty and seasoning notes. I get smoked bacon, white grapes, peanuts and caramel. Also the amontillado profile reveals itself. Dried white sultana’s and dates, in a typical sherried body.
    • Taste
Complex, intense, flavorful. Creamy and thick body. Incredibly layered for a 13yo whisky! I’m impressed. I get tobacco smoke, oranges, salt and mexican spices. Highly enjoyable.
    • Finish
Very long and enjoyable! Delicate peat smoke. This is where the earthy Ledaig character pushes through the most. Quite a lot of black pepper in the finish. Finish wise it could use quite some water, but in my opinion the rest of the experience would be damaged by that so I would not recommend doing so.

There it is again, that rotten note that is characteristic of many Ledaig. It is not as pronounced as many young Bruichladdich, but it is dominant. I do not like it.
I like the taste much better and the finish is a nice ending.
Even if the profile doesn't match my preferences, the whisky is well made. Above all, I like that the alcohol is very well integrated.
    • Nose
Smoke, rotten fruit, peach, banana, sweet, kind of rotten, nuts, slightly grassy
    • Taste
Thick, soft body, noticeable but pleasant start, some smoke, sweet peach juice, sweet liquorice herrings, a hint of sulfur
    • Finish
Again smoke and overripe, sweet fruit, with a pleasant herbal note and a little spicy oak, long

    Opened one year ago.
NOSE: Fat, rich nose with engine oil, tar, asphalt, old salty ropes, hints of stock fish, then more secondary notes of dried, sweet fruits. Very nice! (90p)
TASTE: Quite sweet and fruity. Oily and viscous but less so than the nose hinted at. Sweet sherry fruit notes, engine oil, salt, peat, a little black pepper. Water opens up and slightly mellow the taste, with slightly more fruitiness, orange marmalade, less immediate black pepper but slightly more of it in the aftertaste. A very good Ledaig. (88-89p)
    TOTAL SCORE: 89 points.

Absolutely nothing about this whisky is modest.
    • Nose

Neat the alc is a little agressive on the nose.
Sweet and a tiny bit sour dark fruit.
      Peaty, heavy smoked ham, mineral.
      Some citrus, maybe grapefruit.
    • Taste
      90 90
Heavy, creamy and oily. Almost breath taking.
      Peaty and very salty.
Some sweet notes midway, caramel and jelly.
Earthy wood notes, or maybe it's spicy soil?
    • Finish

This is a long finish... and a bold one as well.
Drying and slightly bitter at the very end.

Amontillado is an Andalusian Sherry, produced in the Montilla region since the 18th century. Without going into detail that I do not control, the Amontillado is produced on a Fino base that will mutate 'abnormally' whose contact with the air is very limited to avoid rapid oxidation. It can also become Amontillado thanks to an additional fortification of alcohol, going from about 13% to 17% and finishing its maturation in old oak barrels. It is thus classified halfway between a Fino and an Olorosso, developing notes of wood, dried fruit and tobacco. The combination of these barrels and the peated whisky produced by the Tobermory distillery works particularly well. This is my taste anyway, as for the port casks in general. www.passionduwhisky.com
    • Nose
Nose: fat and voluptuous peat as Ledaig can do. Leave him a few minutes to calm his ardor and you will receive tobacco, candied oranges, a minty presence, or pine. Milky caramel. The aeration will introduce the following, namely salt.
    • Taste
Palate: This peat brings with it a massive dose of salt, it's impressive this instant domination. Overall it's Ledaig in all its splendor, with horses under the hood. Then we will touch something more fat, fruity, always with orange marmalade, a set of small black fruits. It's still very powerful.
    • Finish
Final: The salt will persist, the peat will be more medicinal, with also elder syrup, berries and other small black fruits. Tobacco smoke. Camphor.

  8. Calmar scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

Very juicy and pushy, it is very young, but attractive with its spontaneity and fervor, if you are not afraid of light, but ubiquitous rubber motifs.
    • Nose
An open, humid, smoke-peaty notes in the frame of raisins and wilted grapes, a leather jacket smelling of fire, smoked salmon, a cordite cord, new tires.
    • Taste
Powerful, saturated, charcoal, peat, sweet raisin-confectionery notes, berry jam, young bark, rubber, burnt biscuits, plastic.
    • Finish
Spicy, smoky-peat, warming, berry jam on burnt toast, ginger, lemon candied fruits, nuts, a little rubber.

  9. MrDvorak scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

The scent is dominated by rotten old bog algae and creamy orange liqueur. The taste is energetic, but oily and delicate with fish oil, raisins and spices. The finish is long, tannic, fishy-nutty.

Ledchig is recognizable for its rotten theme, which is simply gorgeous built into the profile of the whisky, very balanced, drinks great.

    RATING: 90pts - | 90 - 92 (A-) → Excellent | - Here the golden pantheon begins.

  10. Mapl scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Complex and interesting. I give it a better rating than the beginner Ledaig 10. But I don't like the Amontillado finish every day.
