- Wellington Boots
Whisky Troef – a Belgian whisky club – celebrated their 5th anniversary in 2017. To celebrate, they turned to the Whisky Mercenary for a festive bottling. They selected this Ledaig 10 Year Old.
Oh, yes, again a textbook example of a lovely dirty Ledaig on the nose. Creamy butter and stock fish, apples and vanilla, but also hay, earth and rubber boots. You know: Wellington Boots. A drop of olive oil and lime juicy. Clams and raw mussels. Delicious.
Quite the peat bomb on the palate. Ashes, sea salt, pepper and peat precede the sweet notes and require all your attention. But if you can pull away from all this, you’ll be rewarded with vanilla, apple juice, some grapefruit and maybe even some melon. The smokiness is grand.
The finish is wonderfully warm, long and spicy, in which the smoke first intensifies before slowly fading away.
Fantastic Ledaig, as it should be. Thanks for the sample, Tom.
