Nose and palate are stunning! Very well done Clynelish.
    • Nose
      89 89
Really delicious Sherry-and-wax nose. Ripe apricots and other garden fruits.
    • Taste
      90 90
Mouthfeel is incredibly harmonious, soft and rounded.
Fruity beeswax instantly covers all cavities in the mouth.
    • Finish
      88 88
Leaves a beautifully fruity and balanced aftertaste, with just enough
savoury notes to avoid being boring.

Quite a decent Clynelish. Imagine what this would be at cask strength.. The nose is really likeable with fresh honey, orange, red berries, and some faint sherry aromas. Tastewise the honey sweetness continues and is being joined by the signature waxy mouthfeel and sweet and juicy oranges. The finish is the least part but it improves overtime. At €70 back then an absolute steal. Wish I had a bottle extra.

    • Nose
      87 87
      No exuberant sherry maturation.
Well balanced balance of distillery character (wax) and cask; In this case, rather bright garden fruits: apricots, rhubarb, strawberries.
    • Taste
      86 86
First there is some wood from the barrel. Then the fruits are added. Overall restrained and not particularly differentiated. The alcohol is present in taste and doesn't seem well integrated. The orientation of the malt is more tart than sweet.
    • Finish
      85 85
The finish is short to medium long. Sounds a bit bitter and dry.

Pretty nice, just a bit too much on the sour side for my taste / a higher score.

Restrained sherry in a most positive manner.
    • Nose
Dunnage warehouse, woody sherry with dried fruits, slightly nutty.
    • Taste
Still that dried-fruits sherry stuff, then milk chocolate and waxiness.
    • Finish
      Medium with fading sherry wax.

Good whisky, only the finish leaves it a point down. Original price was under €80,- retail. Don't feed the flipper (current €125,- on WB market as lowest)
    • Nose
      88 88
Sherry notes are on top of this one. It reminds me of some red fruit hard candy sweets. There is also a odd flower perfume note in here. But I cannot point it straight. Yet quite a good nose though.
    • Taste
      88 88
Sweet, very Clynelish but with a little touch of red fruit. it is difficult to point down, but yet pleasing to me. It is soft, waxy, and sweet with subtle red fruit influences
    • Finish
      86 86
medium- long length. A little dusty and dry. A little high in the tannins. It leaves this whisky down a bit.

Give her time to open, with a little water she will be even more beautiful.
    • Nose
Honeydrop, raisins, leather, touch of rubber, grapefruit, tobacco, grass, barley. With water blueberries, raspberry, lime, apricot and chocolate.
    • Taste
Pepper, oak, tobacco, nuts, cinnamon, honey, raisins, bitter chocolate, grapefruit, orange, apricot, prunes, corn biscuits, toasted bread and candied fruit.
    • Finish
Medium-long, raisins, bitter chocolate, grapefruit, little tobacco, nuts, cinnamon, burnt bread, corn cookies and candied fruit.

Beautiful laid back - Clynelish. Flavors interact very well with each other.
    • Nose
      86 86
Honey sweet and with the scent of freshly washed linen. Beautiful waxy notes, with hints of peaches and apricots, partially dried. Velvety soft and ingratiating.
    • Taste
      87 87
In the beginning clearly with the Clynelish DNA: wax, honey, orange, nut. Pleasant proportion of oak, mixes beautifully with the wax and honey notes. Bread dough, caramel, coffee beans. Thick and creamy.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium-long and oily with still high wax content, roasted orange slices and almond paste.

    Nose:

Mild sherry notes hit at first. But there is the typical beeswax from Clynelish too. There is a hint of fruitiness but also some pencil shavings from the cask. Taste:

Sweet and a hint of sour. There is a tad sherry note in here, but not much. I think it is fairly balanced. The typical Clynelish hints are underneath some sherry layer. Body:

    Full and creamy

    Finish:

Medium length. Some sherry, beeswax and hint of oak. A little peppery. Price:

    Very good priced.

    Presentation:

Sober but decent as always with Van Wees.

The joys of refill sherry mixes well with Clynelish’s waxy-dense profile. Very harmonious indeed and yet there are surprises lurking behind a corner or two if you take your time with this. Well done and an absolute steel for the price it was released.
    • Nose
Clynelishesque! Bees and candle wax aplenty, orange liqueurs, and soft subdued oak. A cooling sensation reminds you that there is indeed alcohol in this – I must say, this is typically Refill sherry and absolutely pleasant! Distant whiffs of engine oil or varnish, waxy honey, and bright berries – goose, overripe currant, and grapes perhaps. Dried apricots and pears, a touch of honey dew, and bags of mixed nuts (without the salt) complete the picture.
    • Taste
It arrives gently, yet builds up fast to a perfumed one-two punch of cherry and caramel. Lilacs, effervescent hints of vanilla, and honeyed oak.
    • Finish
Medium. Its drying now, with herbal tea and peppermint.

  22. ctu scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Very nice balances, but (especially) the finish is slightly thin at 46% ABV.
    • Nose
Slightly phosphorous sherry. Honey, grape, apricot, waxy apple and orange peel.
    • Taste
Refined. Candied orange peel, green apple, milk caramel, mint and oak. Ginger and white pepper.
    • Finish
      Medium length, spicy and fruity.

  23. KayMeertens scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

87/88. This one is more typical Clynelish and more obviously sherry-matured than cask 8800 released by WIN before, which had that virgin oak-like trait to it.
    • Nose
First a bit dirty. Quickly beautifully fruity with dried apricot, caramel, honey, plum, candied orange, curry and a whiff of grass.
    • Taste
More honey. Caramel, nuts, liquorice, candied orane, nutmeg and a light woodiness. With a drop of water the peach comes out.
    • Finish
Toffee, honey, orange, blueberry, hazelnut and gentle spice.

A relatively old clynelish. On a refill sherry butt, which (fortunately) did not leave a heavy mark on the delicate, almost fragile taste. You certainly recognize the light and fruity character. A very nice drink.
