  1. Calmar scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Very pleasant, rich molt, close to classic bourbon exposure, summer, festive, well balanced and very drinkable.
    • Nose
Restrained, moist, freshly rounded coniferous board, furniture lacquer, turpentine, candied lemon, fruit drops, vegetable notes.
    • Taste
Dense, rich, sweet, spicy oak, lemon syrup, tropical fruits, mango, grains, a little black pepper, candied ginger, bitterness of young bark.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, oak, grain, remains of syrup sweetness and tropical fruits, light metallic and mineral notes, cocoa, nuts.

I really like what the rum cask finish adds compared to a regular Yoichi

A lot happening here, Oak, Lemon, vanilla. It's hard for me to pick it apart.
    • Taste

Very rich, there is this mix of fruitiness combined with bitterness, I recognize lemon skin and nutmeg with a hint of oak and ginger.

Medium/long finish, there is quite some smokiness and bitterness, with a hint of lemon zest. Next to this, there is some lingering sweetness, but the bitterness overpowers this a bit.

The bourbon wood finish was just an average good Yoichi, but the rum cask works well! Nice balance between the sweet rum influence and the malts own character. You can't feel the alcohol, but there is some nice spices, lemon skin , ginger, nutmeg , yelow fruits in the background. A nice Yoichi but the price is to high imho.

    Oh, don't rush ...
With all my "not love" for rum extracts and the finish - there is something to pant over ...
It is absolutely necessary to let "breathe out" - then the incomprehensible alcoholic rum edging leaves ...
Lollipops, vanilla and spices in the nose, absolutely in tune with the taste. But the finish clearly makes it clear the presence of rum, and if you don't like it as much as I do, then this is a significant minus ...
But, for taste and color - there are no comrades.

Tasted together with his little brother Miyagikyo, it is just slightly less sweet and fruity than the latter. The peaking is almost imperceptible. Very elegant and stately.

Exciting finish that produces some nice, own notes, but still needs depth and rounding.
    • Nose
Esthernoten, beautifully integrated, cane sugar, banana liqueur, toffee, vanilla, marzipan, white chocolate, candied lemon, very funny nose
    • Taste
Banana, toffee, lots of vanilla, marzipan, almonds, buttery, white chocolate, limoncello, some oak, mango and candied ginger
    • Finish
Oak, lemon peel, the sweetness remains too, white chocolate and cocoa, medium length

Drinkable but not very special - no age but quite overpriced
    • Nose
      89 89
Lemon peels, honeydew, vanilla, hints of oak wood
    • Taste
      88 88
Little punchy, subtle sweetness, some teaish notes, little fruity, vanilla, spices, pepper, woody notes
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium long, warm, zesty, a tad bitter in the end

This is a success story, A nose and a mouth that speaks a lot, rich and complex, Yoichi is reborn from these ashes. But at what cost. Rum speaks but whisky continues. Good game. If it had to be given a subjective rating, it would be a 89.
    • Nose
Amber gold dress. The nose. First of all tangy on the acidulated: candied lemon, yuzu. Pastry chef like Yoichi has always been: cake pie, brioche golden butter. The cereal identity reminds us of youth. A peat very pleasantly sweet, mixing the exoticism of salty mango, papaya. Warm and spicy, leather and brown tobacco, raisins and prunes. Discreet mocha note.
    • Taste
The mouth. It's rich, concentrated. Round and fruity. Yellow fruit confit, peach, Queen Claude. Spicy and roasted, white chocolate, blond tobacco, young leather, noble wood, vanilla and mocha then more depth around the prune and cooked mango, papaya and roasted pineapple. A long smoked wall surrounded by English cake and a metallic minerality.
    • Finish
The finish is long, smoky and exotic.
