    #feinenotes Glass: Riedel Vinum Tasting glass

    Color: light straw Nose: Tuut do here comes a big heavy steam locomotive. Strong smoke from a campfire with something too wet wood urges itself into my nose. The 55.3% are indeed heard but have little chance against the rich smoke. Over time, the smoke evaporates a bit and the whisky presents its finer nuances. Pear caramelised with brown sugar and flamed apple. For a short time I noticed anise. Roasted barley. A fresh opened bag of trail mix. Bread with fruits. Licorice (salty herring). Great balance of rough and sweet notes. Palate: First of all, the smoke spreads in the mouth. But the alcohol is so well integrated that it can be left on the tongue for quite a long time. I have not tasted a lot of brandy in my life, but this bunna reminds me a lot of what I stored in my head under brandy, just with smoke. Grapes. Red fruits. Lakritzige notes. Reverberation: The smoke swings quickly to a pleasant sweetness. I would describe the aftertaste as medium. Conclusion: Yes Bunnahabhain is my favorite still. This is my first Bunna with a brandy finish. It's even the first bunna with brandy finish in general. For me, this experiment was absolutely successful and I hope that one makes the island of Islay now more often on the journey to make such beautiful Brandy barrels locate. Would I buy it again? Yes I would. After the release I got it for 80 €. Up to 40 € more would be worth me this strong smoky Bunnahabhain.

    Iodine, algae, smoke, coal, earth, medicines, engine oil, metal, electrical wiring, smoked meats, fried meat, fried sunflower seeds, vegetable, laurel, mint, honey, yellow apple.

    Peat and grape sweetness, the inhale is ashy the exhale is fruity. Well done! Water added malt, chocolate and caramel

    The peat feels slightly stronger than the ordinary Bunnahabhain, the wine is slightly watery, and the flavor is not very good.

    A nice dram which delivers a lot of smoke and enough cask influence.
    A dram which requires time to breathe, don’t rush it!
    • Nose
      A big whiff of maritime and smoke. Smoke is on the medicinal side with plenty of iodine and plenty of oomph. Hints of herbs and mint leaves, with bassets liquorice coming forward through time. Little note of aniseed creeping forward but a sweet edge of grapes and berries takes over.
    • Taste
      The sweetness arrives quickly and is followed by spices. Purple fruit pastels, sweet and sour sweets of a berries variety. Big helping of chili on the tongue with thick layers of smoke engulfing the palate. A duller note of damp cloth arrives to top it off.
    • Finish
      Drying, smoky, woody and long! The black currant sweet note continues on way after the wood disappears.

    A great experience and a successful experiment. I think the finishing in Brandy casks was spot on and works really well with the peated distillate. If this is going to be the standard for the Moine range, we are in for a treat.
    • Nose
      The initial whiff is quite coastal, with a spray of brine and a hint of sea weed. Then comes the coal smoke and ashes mixed up with some fresh peat. However, when you wait just a little bit longer, the brandy starts to shine. Sweet raisins and currants, black currant juice, polished wood, red grapes, all beautifully balanced by an underlying nuttiness with a salty edge. Everything gets fully integrated into the whirlpool of smoke, sea water and brandy, into which a bag of salty nuts has been thrown. Also I get intense orange liquor, some lemon skin, along with some dried oranges and prunes.
    • Taste
      The smoke is much more on the forefront. Coal smoke with a sour edge, carbon paper, vegetal peat and a few drops of lemon juice. There are some dried figs and prunes, along with salty nuts and sea weed, but the brandy finish is much less noticeable on the palate. Lingering nuts, red grape juice and coal smoke persist for several minutes. Another sip? Hell yeah! Red wine, more smoke, lime skin, grapefruit, orange, leather, and Fisherman’s Friend.
