...if only the texture/oiliness were a little better this whisky would have made it to a 90+ points score. But it is a superb and delicious dram anyhow, dangerously quaffable... So if you own a bottle: Crack it open and share it with friends, you will be delighted (I promise)!
The colour is jonquiripe corn and the texture shows a fat sticky ring that builds many tears with medium fast legs. The nose truly is superb and elegant on lots of different fruits (I got the mirabelles and quinces too), summer floral and honey aromas in a perfect balance. I really like this nose!
The taste is delicious on various fruits and different honey flavours in a somewhat tingling arrangement. It is not layered but who needs different layers if the initial one is that great already. Not the slightest sign of any flaw or any overaging, this was bottled exactly at the right time.
The whisky arrives warming but not very much coating in the mouth, unfortunately (the oiliness is not the greatest as could be seen with the texture already). No distracting bitter or astringent moments, at least! The finish is rather short to medium with more spicy and malty flavours and again no distracting bitter or drying moments. Some water releases a lot of additional aromas and flavours both in the nose and on the palate, actually I like it best when reduced to about 35% abv (really!). Interestingly the finish gets longer after some water is added.
