Now you have to buy 18 Cadenhead bottles for a free 20+years old club release or 12 bottles for a 15-18 years old or 6 bottles for a lower aged standard club release. Of course I liked the old scheme better but still this is a great deal and given today's whisky boom it is generous to do this. Please keep this attitude and do not get greedy like the big boys in the whisky business nowadays (and I will stay a loyal customer even throughout the upcoming bust that will come for sure, I bet all of my a.. on this)!
This is an interesting and very nice selection for a club release, I like it! Exactly as it should be...
The colour is old gold and the texture shows many small tears and slow legs. The nose is quite impressive on interesting sweet "bubble gum"-like fruity aromas that some will like and others not. I like it and it reminds me of great seventies Glencadam releases that offered such a profile too. The sweet aromas are complemented by spicy and herbal flavours that balance out and contain the "bubble gum" in a good way.
The taste again offers this interesting bubble gumish style (you remember MAOAM?) together with creamy toffee and spicy wooden flavours in a good balance. One to chew for minutes, for sure. Some water smoothes the dram and balances the aromas/flavours even better. I like it best when reduced to about 50% abv. A higher reduction flattens the dram without adding new impressions.
The whisky arrives hot (almost 60% abv) and nicely coating on the palate with no bitter or astringent moments whatsoever. The finish is of medium length and adds more spices while the bubble gum aromas are almost gone now. Again no bitter or drying moments.
